Unfortunately DisplayFusion doesn't support drag & drop on taskbar icons. All it currently does is forcing the taskbar icon to infinitely flash until your click on it.
The default Windows 7 behavior is that the application will be maximized while dragging, in case it's a grouped taskbar icon it'll open the super-preview and allows maximizing the application/window by dragging on the preview.
Dragging files over top of the taskbar buttons works as it should for me. Do you have the "Focus window when mouse is dragged over Taskbar button" option enabled on the Taskbar tab?

Yes, it was enabled by default. I've tested it with WinSCP, Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft Expression Blend.
Do you want me to test it with a bit more applications ?
Do you need the DF log or a video ?
Ah ok, I've never tested it with those apps. It works for me in other ones like OneNote, Windows Explorer, etc. However, I've just tested with WinSCP, and it definitely doesn't work.
We'll see what we can do for the apps you listed. If you find any other ones that don't work, please let me know.
Thanks!
Ok awesome, thanks for the update!
The issue with WinSCP should now be fixed up in 4.0 Beta 14. Could you give it a try and let me know how it goes?
Thanks!

Haven't had any further issues with WinSCP or any other tool!
Good job guys!
That's great news, thanks!

I seem to be having the same problem, only with ALL apps. I'm running Win 7 x64 pro and DP 4.0.1 beta 2. When dragging on a taskbar button, it just keeps flashing and they never pop up. I have to manually click them in order to maximize them, thereby canceling my drag operation. Very inconvenient.

I had the same problem with the 4.0 release, I tried the latest beta before posting on this forum.
Ok, we've just released 4.0.1 Beta 3 yesterday, could you give it a try to confirm the issue is still occurring and we'll troubleshoot from there?
Thanks!

I've attached a log file. What I did was simply dragged an image on this webpage (I'm using Google Chrome) to the Outlook taskbar button at 11:27:45, which then started to flash. I clicked the button to make it stop flashing at 11:27:50, which opened Outlook.

Note that this is only happening on one particular Windows install. On my other machines, I'm not seeing this problem. All have Windows 7 x64 and similar software installed. Also, on the machine with the problem, I sometimes see taskbar buttons moving to the back of the list, as if they have been deleted and reinserted at the end. Maybe that has something to do with the issue?
It's possible! We actually did fix an issue for 4.0.1 Beta 4 (released yesterday) that could cause the taskbar to actually be reloading itself frequently. Could you try updating to 4.0.1 Beta 4 and let me know if you still have the same issue?

That doesn't seem to be it. I have a very clear repro case, but unfortunately it involves having the Xbox 360 SDK installed. When I click on the "Xbox neighbourhood" item in Windows Explorer and not all registered xboxes are turned on, the taskbar button for the corresponding explorer window disappears for a brief moment, and is then recreated at the right of all other existing buttons. I attached a DisplayFusion log of the event. I clicked on it at 15:21:15.

Ok thanks Sylvester! This may be related to another issue that we'll hopefully have fixed up for Beta 6. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as it's available to try out.
Beta 6 is now available. Could you give it a try and let me know if you're still having the drag and drop issue, as well as the issue of the taskbar buttons being removed/re-added?
Thanks!

I've installed beta 7, the issue with the disappearing buttons seems to have been fixed!
But I still can't restore a window by dragging over it.

Thanks Sylvester! It looks like the issue is that the applications aren't getting hooked by DisplayFusion (required in order for the taskbar drag and drop to work). Could you send me a copy of the info from the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab?
Thanks!

Thanks! Oddly, everything looks ok in the Troubleshooting info. Quick question: If you restore (un-maximize) the Chrome window and drag it around the screen, do the TitleBar Buttons keep up with it, or do they lag behind?

I do notice a slight lag, but I have to look closely. But they're certainly not as instant as the regular (close/maximize) buttons.

Ok, I just tested it on a machine where I'm not seeing the problem, and I don't notice a lag there so there's deffinitely a difference. Hardware is roughly the same (same videocard (HD 5870), somewhat faster CPU (Core i7 on the machine with the problem vs Core 2 Quad))
Ok, what about middle-clicking the Chrome titlebar, or the Chrome caption buttons (minimize, maximize, or close)? Does middle-clicking one of those move the Chrome window to the next monitor?
Just want to check that to fully confirm that the hooks aren't working on the Chrome window.
Ok, Chrome is definitely getting hooked then, so that wouldn't be causing the problem. Does this only happen when dragging from Chrome to Outlook? Could you try just highlighting some text in Notepad, and then try dragging that over a button on the DisplayFusion taskbar?
Excellent, that's great to hear, Sylvester!
