I installed the latest beta version on my Win7 64bit system and thee notification area was just flashing on my main screen. The start menu was just flashing on my main screen. The CPU was in overdrive and clicking on anything was a nightmare. Maybe something for you guys to look at for the next beta?

Strange! If you disable the Multi-Monitor Taskbar feature, does the issue still occur?

Without the second taskbar enabled it runs fine with no issues that I can see.

Ok, could you re-enable the Multi-Monitor Taskbar, then right-click it and navigate to Multi-Monitor Taskbar > System Tray > Show/Hide Icons. This should stop the DisplayFusion taskbar from trying to show the System Tray icons. Just curious if that's the cause of the issues.

Thanks!

Yes, that has cured it! It would seem that that is the problem.

Ok, we're making some more changes to the system tray code for 3.5 Beta 2. I'll let you know as soon as it's available to test.

Thanks!

Same here. It goes completely bonkers and even the already present apps are affected. Can't change the settings since it flickers that much.

Beta 2. Still flashing apps on 2nd monitor, but less fast. I now could change the settings of DP to remove the taskbar and flashing of the on the second monitor stopped.

Ok, could you please try disabling the tray icons (right-click the taskbar, navigate to Multi-Monitor Taskbar > System Tray > Show/Hide Icons) to see if that makes any difference?

Could you also do the following when the CPU usage is high?
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "Logging: All Lines"
  • In the Advanced Settings, enable the "General: Advanced Debug Logging" option (note that if you already had the options in steps #1 and #2 enabled, please disable them to see if the performance issues still exist. If they do, turn them back on and proceed to step #3)
  • During, or after the issue occurs, send me the info from the Troubleshooting tab, as well as the DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • You can turn off the options from steps #1 and #2 after sending the info in step #3.

Thanks!

I had to start the log then turn the taskbar icons on as everything was locked up if I tried turning the taskbar icons on first.

Thanks guys, would it be possible for you to list all of the programs that have icons in the system tray on your machines? Just curious to see if the issue might be related to a specific tray icon or not.

Actually, forget that request, the Troubleshooting info shows the list :)

@petrossa: could you post the info from the Troubleshooting tab? Specifically, the two "Taskbar Tray Icons" sections?

Thanks!

Would you guys by any chance be able to use the msconfig Startup tab to disable all programs from running on Windows startup, then reboot and see if you still have the high CPU issues?

Thanks!

With all Startup programs disabled it was just the same keith. I could not get to task manager to see just how high the cpu was running at. The flickering was no different.

Weirdness. Still i can't see that making a difference. If it's hardware related i'd think it's be the grpahics card. I have a Radeon HD 6900

Interesting! I can't imagine it would be related to the CPU hardware, but I've got a Phenom X3 at home that I'll test on this weekend to see if it does indeed make a difference.

Mine is a Phenom II so I would be very suprized if it was hardware related and if so why just that one part?

Yeah, I tried it on my Phenom II X3 at home this weekend, no issues. Figured it was worth a shot since I haven't been able to reproduce the issue here at all :(

I'll look into it some more and we'll see what we can figure out.

I switched back to 3.4 since there are other issues with stability. Can't pinpoint how or what, it just goes wonky. How's that for a bug report

It just goes wonky. Either the taskbar goes in a freeze half hiding and comes out of it or it just crashes and disappears.

DisplayFusion 3.5 Beta 3 is now available, and will hopefully fix up the issues with the system tray icons. If you guys get a chance to give it a try, please let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Its now a WindowsBlind thing Keith! Before it was a problem with or without WindowBlinds loaded now its works perfectly if I dont load WindowBlinds. Slightly off topic, the Swedish language file for 3.50 Beta 3 DOES in fact work, appologies for the email stating that it dosnt. A restart of Display Fusion fixed that problem.

Here is with icons activated. You see how the CPU load shoots up. All other apps lag badly in responding to input.

However DP itself doesn't flicker anymore.

Just for my own future reference: how were you able to identify that Beta 3 was causing mouse/input problems?

I do not have a problem at the moment (now that I upgraded to v3.5.0 Beta 4), but I was affected by the Beta 3 mouse issues earlier in the week. I assumed that DF was not the cause, because the problem remained even after I restored backup settings and even when I exited the program completely.

This problem drove me NUTS for a few days, but I'm glad to see it got resolved. I just want to know how I can identify any future similar issue.

----------

As info, I only experienced problems with two programs (Microsoft Word 2010 and Opera web broser version 11.61). I am running a fully-patched Windows 7 system with two NVIDIA graphics cards (GeForce 9800 GTX+ and GeForce GTX 460) and NVIDIA graphics driver version 285.62.

no change with beta 4, same flickering of apps., except it talks to me in Portuguese now and claims my English files are gone. :) Next beta it'll pick those again i hope. I can't even swear in Portuguese

We had made some behind the scenes changes in Beta 3, that once we started seeing the issues get reported, it was pretty obvious to us which changes broke it :)

It's definitely strange that you were still having issues after closing DisplayFusion though.

Glad to hear it's working now though!

@petrossa: Not sure what could have happened with the language files! Does a reinstall fix the issue? As for the flickering, we haven't been able to fix it up yet, there's definitely some weird incompatibility with the WindowBlinds themes. For now, best bet is to just disable the system tray icons. I'll be sure to post an update if we can resolve the issue.

weird. it seems it was catalan, not portuguese. Which now it claimed doesn't exist. lol. English back. Btw, if trayicons active browser stops responding to input, you switch them off and suddenly all input gets processed. Like the event queue is blocked by DP.

Sadly beta 4 didnt change anything for me other than the language went back to English with the usual error message. I have reverted back to v3.4.1 so I can keep the language in Swedish but looking at alternative programs. The issue with windowblinds has been one thing or another for a long time now which alternative software dont seem to suffer from.

@Alan: I've emailed over a copy of the Swedish translation for 3.5 Beta 4. Note that the new strings will be in English as they haven't been translated yet.

We haven't had a chance to fix up the system tray issue with WindowBlinds but we are going to have a look at it soon to see what we can do. WindowBlinds compatibility is tricky but we are aiming to get it the best we can. I'll be sure to post an update when we have one.

Thanks!

My question is basically this: if I notice any problems again, what should I do/check before I report the problem to you guys?

@Robert: Ah, ok! The best things to do are to first close DisplayFusion to see if the problem still exists. If it goes away when closing DisplayFusion, then you can also try reverting back to the previous version, to see if it's something that recently broke.

Thanks!

The issue with the blinking taskbars with WindowBlinds should now be all fixed up in 3.5 Beta 6. Please let me know if you guys still have any trouble with it.

Thanks!

The swedish language pack but if you have another beta up and coming I can wait for that version first.

You can mark this thread as 'Solved' Jon.

Glad to hear it! I'll email over the Swedish translation once we've released Beta 7 (should be today or tomorrow).

Thanks!
