Hey guys,

I found a couple of more issues while using DisplayFusion on Windows 8 x64.

- The alternative startmenu icon disappears very often.
- The alternative startmenu icon often flickers as hell when the focus changes between my main screen and a secondary screen. Notice: The icon will only disappear on one of my secondary screens, not on both. (see second screenshot)

- Get connected to another network by using a VPN, WLAN, 3G-Modem or something else, close the "Windows network tab" (or whatever it's called) by clicking on a connection or on your desktop ---> watch your Windows taskbar and your DisplayFusion taskbar: You no longer have a instance of the "network tab" on your Windows taskbar but an instance remains on your DisplayFusion taskbar. It's still possible to "open" the network tab, even tho I should be already gone. It may be a intended behaviour by Windows that they just hide the icon from the taskbar because they don't/can't properly exit the process (maybe it's a child process from explorer.exe?).
See:

DisplayFusion 4.1 Beta 14:

- The icon of the alternative startmenu won't appear again once it's gone. Even tho it'll fade smoothly out when you press WIN to open the startmenu.
--> You can also no longer open the startmenu by using your mouse once the icon is gone.

- Sometimes when you use WIN+TAB (to cycle through "Modern UI" + your Desktop) the alternative startmenu opens, sometimes it doesn't.

That's it so far :P More to come... <3

Cheers~

Are there any reproducible steps to make the Start button for the alternate Start menu disappear?

Hey Keith,

actually I'm not pretty sure how to reproduce the bug. I was switching all the time between "Modern UI" and my usual desktop. Maximized a couple of windows (streams) on my secondary monitor. I didn't notice when the button disappeared, I just noticed it sometime that it was gone :D

Let me try to reproduce it in v4.1 :)

Sounds good, we've fixed up the issue of the Networks Charm showing a button on the taskbar in 4.1 :)

Hey Keith,

I've found some more issues with Windows 8:

The DisplayFusion taskbar doesn't use same color intensity as the native taskbar.

DisplayFusion 4.1

Just right click on your desktop --> personalize --> colors --> select a random color: move the color intensity slider and see the differences.

Another issue is that there's no icon for any InstallShield setup.

I also had to reinstall my whole Windows, therefore DisplayFusion. When the setup completed I just ticked "Run DisplayFusion". As expected I saw the dialog asking me to disable the native multimonitor taskbar.
However, while the dialog was opened I saw two taskbars, the native and the displayfusion. After I clicked "Yes" both taskbars disappeared again and I got introduced to DisplayFusion via the wizard (how is it called? Newbie guide? :-)). The taskbar was gone until I closed the wizard, which could be kinda confusing to new customers.

I've got something more for you! :)

Again it's a issue with the taskbar color: The color of the taskbar changed a couple of times while I was browsing/searching the Windows Store and even when I launched some apps I recently installed.

The colors were the same from the launching screen background.

Another minor issue is that you can notice a new Windows Explorer instance on your DisplayFusion taskbar for a couple of seconds while launching a Metro App. I'm not sure if this can be fixed or if it's even that kind of annoying that it needs a fix :)

[EDiT]
Btw. moving Metro Apps using the hotkeys (i.e. CTRL+WIN+X/W) will result in that the app will be correctly moved but there is still a fullscreen "App" (maybe it's Metro itself?) on the old position. That "App" can't be focused and moved, which is kinda annoying :/

[EDiT2]
I often noticed that the DisplayFusion taskbar is still in front of Metro and any Metro App, even tho I unchecked "Show taskbar in front of fullscreen application when they lose focus".

Ok, would you be able to capture a video of the taskbar colour changing? I'm not able to reproduce it here.

We'll see if we can fix up the Explorer taskbar button when Metro apps are launching, as well as the Ctrl+Win+X issue on the Metro apps.

The taskbar staying above Metro apps should be all fixed up in 4.2 Beta 1 :)

Quick note on 4.2 Beta 2. We had to remove the ability to move Metro apps with HotKeys. They run differently than Desktop apps and are not meant to be moved by external apps like DisplayFusion. Sorry!

The issue of the context menus for tray icons getting stuck behind the taskbar in Windows 8 should be all fixed up in DisplayFusion 4.3 :)

Thanks!
