Ill try and explain this as best as i can.

  • The timing of when you hover over a taskbar item and the aero peek comes up is reasonably accurate
  • The timing of when the aero peek window looses focus and hides is too fast compared to Windows.
  • There is an invisible border (maybe 10 pixels thick) around the aero peek window that keeps the window active if the cursor is placed within that 'buffer zone'

On a side note, the right click functionality (like when right clicking on Outlook 2010) the list of tasks is not present in the DF task bar. I suspect this is a limitation of windows and that's why it has not been implemented?

Cheers,
Ivan

Thanks for the feedback!

We're planning to add that buffer zone around the previews eventually, just haven't had a chance yet :)

The timing for closing the taskbar button preview seems to be pretty close to me, how much different from the Windows taskbar is it for you?

We're also hoping to add the jump lists to the right-click menus for the taskbar buttons in the future, we just haven't had any luck so far.

Hi,

After some testing and you are right, the closing is quite close. What i did find was that with the Windows functionality, even if you click as the AeroPeek is coming or while it is up it wont hide it, where as the DF version does.
The AeroPeek by MS requires you to click 2 times to hide it.

Small things like that make your version somewhat unpredictable.

There are also some situations where the DF aeropeek pops up immediately and others where it has the predictable delay. Still trying to narrow it down.

We are planning to fix up the left-click behaviour when the previews are opening, so as soon as we do, I'll post an update :)

As for the previews opening right away, I haven't run into it at all, but please let me know if you find a pattern or steps to reproduce the issue.

Thanks!

Just a quick update, we've released 4.0.1 Beta 7, and the previews should no longer hide when left clicked while they're still opening. They'll also lock open, to match the Windows taskbar behaviour.

We're still working on adding MRU and app control functionality to the right-click menus for the taskbar buttons.

Thanks!

I thought the "closing" issue was about the delay in a preview hiding when the mouse leaves the taskbar or preview itself. For the native taskbar, there's about a 0.5 to 1 second delay before the preview hides, then a further 0.5 to 1 seconds before the taskbar hides (I have auto hide set). With the DF taskbar, both the preview and the taskbar hide immediately on mouse out.

@deanis: Indeed! The fix I was referencing was for post #3 in this topic, about clicking the button once to show, and once again to hide. We still have the delay on our list to fix, so I'll be sure to post an update for that when we have one as well :)

Thanks!

Just a quick update: Starting with DisplayFusion 5.0 Beta 6 (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/), DisplayFusion will now show the correct jump list entries to match the Windows taskbar.

Thanks!
