Since I only really use right-click context menus on the taskbar icons regularly for a few applications, I cannot say how many applications are affected. I typically use right-click on the taskbar icon for Windows File Explorer and Steam. I noticed that after updating displayfusion, right-clicking on the File Explorer icon no longer shows the list of recently viewed/frequently visited folder locations as it did previously. It only displays a small list of pinned locations which are also actually missing the folders I manually pinned. Also, opening (and closing) File Explorer windows does not update the recent list.

Steam still shows a current list of my recently played games, Chrome shows a list of recently closed/most visited websites, etc., so I suspect it may only be File Explorer. Additionally, checking Word/Excel, etc. I see that the recent list appears, however the only entry shown is the documents I just opened to check for the presence of the recent list.

Since the update to DF8, i have no jumplists on closed apps that are pinned to a DF's taskbar.
If i launch the app, the jumplist appears and works normally.
Seven x64 here.

@Mark: That's really strange! I've just tested on Win 10 10586, as well as the new Anniversary Update (14393), and in both cases, with DisplayFusion 8.0, I get the pinned and frequent items when I right-click Windows Explorer.

Would you be able to attach a screenshot of the jump list for Windows Explorer on both the Windows taskbar and the DF taskbar? Maybe there's something different about the items in your jump list that would be affecting this.

@Psy: We've confirmed that issue in Windows 7 here, and it will be all fixed up for 8.0.1.

Thanks!

While reading Mark, i thought he was describing same problem as mine. Sorry if not the case and thanks for the info, waiting 8.0.1 with great impatience. :]

Here are the displayfusion menus.

And also, here is a picture of the Steam menu showing that that particular application shows recent items on the displayfusion bar just fine.

Thanks Mark! It looks like even in your Windows jump list screenshot, the recent/pinned items aren't there. Is that correct?

Yeah, that's correct. I don't know why it disappeared, but it did coincide with the update. Also, I don't remember it calling the File Explorer application "Microsoft Windows Operating System" on the displayfusion context menu. I guess it's possible that there was an automatic Windows Update coincided with the displayfusion update.

DisplayFusion just reads the pinned/recent items for the buttons from Windows itself, so if they're not showing up on the Windows taskbar, they won't on the DF taskbar either. There shouldn't be anything in DF that could make that happen on the Windows taskbar, and we released DisplayFusion 8.0 a few days after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update was released, so my guess would be that something in the Anniversary Update broke this on your machine :(

Regarding the name in the jump list, I have confirmed on my machine that that's broken as well, and have added it to our list to fix up :)

Thanks!

Haha, what's new? Windows 10 is a big pile of shite that always has stuff breaking in it. :) I've even had broken/corrupt FRESH installs... Basically broken after the first automatic reboot during the installation process.

And on another machine that was working fine and had basically been powered off for a couple of months...I booted it up a little while back, logged in, let it sit for about 15 minutes and when I came back, it had randomly broken itself. (Corrupted local profile and Tiles). Never had that happen to me in previous versions of Windows. Probably just an update that broke it.

Yeah, we've definitely received a few cases where the Anniversary Update has broken things in Windows! Just read this article this morning, so I had a bit of a chuckle when I saw your reply: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/08/kindle-crashes-and-broken-powershell-something-isnt-right-with-windows-10-testing/

Funny article. Yeah, they definitely need more QA. It appears that the problem has partially resolved itself. The jump list now shows recently opened items now. But still doesn't show frequently visited folders.

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I've pretty much always had this issue (for maybe the past 8 years) and finally tried searching online whether this could be fixed and found this post about the exact same problem... The only recent/relevant discussion I could find was this post but my system jump list items were already set as enabled by default. Is there a way to show the pinned/most recent items for Windows Explorer on the DF taskbar?

after some quick testing, i noticed this actually seems to only be the case for Windows or MS-related apps like File Explorer/Word/Outlook. However, other apps like Firefox/Steam/VLC correctly show the recent/frequently used items.

It seems to work fine here, Could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached
