Pretty much the topic, yeah. I recently reinstalled Windows 10 (Specifically Ameliorated) and have been slowly working on getting everything set up as it should be again. DisplayFusion was one of the first things I installed after drivers, and very annoyingly I can't Alt+Tab between windows anymore.

The little pseudo-prompt window pops up like it should no problem, and it obviously selects whatever I tab to- things like Discord can be typed into after tabbing to them, for instance, and they flash on my taskbar. But they aren't brought to the front or... Quite properly selected, since again flashing icon on the taskbar. Usually something I only encounter with really stubborn fullscreen games that don't want to give up focus, but since the reinstall it's been doing that with everything.

I will say that I am using Classic Shell, which might be conflicting somewhere and causing the issue, but I'm not really sure where to start in getting it cleared up...

If you open the DisplayFusion Advanced Settings and enable "SetWindowPos: Disallow TopMost Calls", does that fix it up after restarting DisplayFusion?

Thanks!

That doesn't seem to change anything, unfortunately. Tried restarting both DisplayFusion and my PC after changing that setting with no difference.

EDIT: Interesting thing I hadn't picked up on until just now that might be relevant; the taskbar on my second display isn't always-on-top like it is on my primary screen.

Could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks for sending that over. If you roll back to v9.9, does this issue persist?

Thanks!

Ehh... Yes and no. It fixes it to a degree. If nothing is fullscreened, Alt+Tab functions as normal and expected. But with a fullscreen application like a game open, it no longer works. The "selection" window pops up, but it won't switch to anything. And it won't go away on its own either, until I click on something.

Okay strange, I've been playing around with this but I can't seem to reproduce anything on my end. I don't think Classic Shell should be interfering here, but if you close it out and restart DisplayFusion, does that help?

Thanks!

I would if I could- I think it (Classic Shell) is running pretty mildly in the background with no immediately apparent processes to close out. Seems to only really be effecting Explorer.

I'm thinking it's something with Ameliorated Windows, but I'm not entirely sure what. Is there anything in Windows integral to DisplayFusion's function that could've been ripped out by Ameliorated?

Further experimentation seems to indicate that the task bar on my second display breaks after several failed Alt+Tab attempts. Restarting DisplayFusion seems to fix that, at least... Still no progress trying to solve the Alt+Tab issue itself though. It at least works okay without fullscreen applications involved if that helps any?

It might also be worth noting that I've primarily been having the issue with Warhammer 40k: Darktide, since that just released and I've been playing it a lot.

EDIT: Nah, it's not related specifically to Darktide. Confirmed with Bloons TD 6 a little bit ago. Frustrating.

I wonder if there's something in Ameliorated Windows that's preventing DisplayFusion from grabbing those Windows. Does this only happen when trying to focus windows on secondary taskbars? If you change the taskbar mode in DisplayFusion to "Windows taskbar shows all windows, DisplayFusion taskbar shows relevant windows", does that make any difference?

That's what I'm thinking, but I'm not sure what- or how to get around it.

Changing that setting doesn't seem to make any real difference, unfortunately. I think you're right though in that it becomes an issue when attempting to select a window on the other screen... Beyond that I'm not entirely sure.

As much as I value my privacy and dislike all of Microsoft's built-in spyware, I'm considering reinstalling Windows (yet again) and going back to a more standard build. :/

EDIT: Oh yeah this is the Ameliorated Windows I'm referring to, though I'm not sure it goes into enough specifics to really help.

Actually it looks like you have UAC fully disabled, so Windows won't allow DisplayFusion to have ui access, which is required for Alt+Tab to work.

I was able to confirm this issue on my end, but unfortunately there isn't anything we can do to fix it. You'll need to re-enable UAC, or disable the DisplayFusion Alt+Tab handler and use the Windows one.

Thanks!

That's... Wild. I've always had UAC disabled because it's infuriating, but never ran into this issue before. Is it related to the other issue with the taskbar too?

I'll try with just the Windows one then for now I guess.

That's likely related, yep. If you are going to use the Windows Alt+Tab handler, you'll want to change your taskbar mode to "Windows taskbar shows all windows, DisplayFusion taskbar shows relevant windows". Otherwise it may miss windows that are only on DisplayFusion taskbars.

Thanks!
