Hi! I just bought DisplayFusion a few days ago on Steam, and I've noticed an issue with the Alt+Tab functionality. For clarification, I have it set to "Show on Current Monitor Only, Show All Windows" and I'm running Windows 7.

Anyway, I've noticed that sometimes when I alt+tab, sometimes it minimizes me to the desktop. By this I mean, if I have Chrome and Skype windows open, then I alt-tab, DisplayFusion will minimize both of them. I'm in the habit of rapidly pressing it over the years, so I thought this was a shortcut. Well, I managed to catch it once, and it turns out that the alt+tab was selecting the desktop (icon?) first. The desktop icon is at the very end, so it's kind of strange that it would select it first. I can't seem to notice a pattern, I believe it's random.

As for the suggestion: by default, Windows 7 let's you move to the left on the alt+tab screen by pressing Alt + Tab + Shift + Ctrl. This may seem like it's messy to press all those, but I've gotten used to it over the years. I noticed DisplayFusion replaces this with Alt + Tab + Shift. I would therefore like to request if you could add the option to use either hotkey. (Maybe this is already in the software. If so, please say where I could find it!)

I've run into this before as well, but haven't been able to find a way to reliably reproduce it. Are there any steps on your machine that will make it happen consistently? (switching from certain programs maybe?)

Hmm, well, most of the time I have Chome open when I try to alt tab, and I think it might happen more often in my second monitor (where I have the DisplayFusion taskbar). Though, I'm just spitballing and I don't think I can make it happen consistently. Typically once I get it to happen, it doesn't happen for a while. Unless I can pull up an event log of why it did that, I don't think I can reproduce it. Sorry ::)

EDIT:

SCRATCH THAT! I've found a way to reliably reproduce it!

1: Open a new tab in Chrome (bug doesn't occur with Firefox, tested. The bug seems to occur with both the ctrl+T hotkey, and pressing the "new tab" button)
2: Alt+tab

I've done it about a dozen times, it happens every time.

EDIT2: seems to also occur if you open a new window, incognito or otherwise.

Yep, that did it for me! I've added it to our list and we'll be sure to let you know when we're able to fix it up.

Thanks for your help in tracking it down!

Just want to backup this issue with some of my experience. This had been occurring for months so when I finally reinstalled my computer I thought this problem was going to dissapear, although I was wrong.

Hopefully this can be fixed soon and please at least add an option to remove the Desktop from alt + tab as a (feature and) workaround, as already stated in a thread last year: http://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/alttab-handler-program-disapper-from-taskbar/?ID=1f8befbe-b397-4d78-8295-9928c715fc9c

EDIT: I was able to reproduce this issue with the same procedure as Dime

You actually can remove the Desktop from the DF Alt+Tab Handler. Just disable the "Show Desktop window" option on the Settings > Window Management tab :)

Ooh, need to check more carefully next time. I'll use that as a workaround for now. Thanks

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

For your request, I'm a bit confused. When I do Alt + Ctrl + Tab with the Windows alt+tab handler, it still just moves to the next item in the list, and I'm not sure why you would want to do Alt + Ctrl + Shift + Tab, when you can just do Alt + Shift + Tab. Could you elaborate? Just wondering if I missed something here :)

Thanks!

I would prefer to use Alt + Ctrl + Shift + Tab because it's what I've got muscle memory for after using Windows for all these years, and because Ctrl + Shift + Tab is also the key combination used to go to the previous tab in Chrome and Firefox. I don't think Windows has a response for Alt + Ctrl + Tab, I think without the Shift in there, it just treats it as a regular Alt + Tab.

Ok, this should be all fixed in the just-released DisplayFusion 7.0 :)

I can confirm that this particular bug has been fixed in 7.0, and the feature I requested has been added. Thanks for that!

Unfortunately, I've found that this bug has also reared its head again. This time, whenever a video goes full screen (whether it's from YouTube or any other video site, it seems) the alt+tab handler defaults to the Desktop, just like when you opened a new tab.

Again, this happens every time I've done it, tested on Chrome and Firefox, it occurs with both browsers.
