Animated wallpapers take alot of system resources, especially with high resolution.
I cant speak for Display fusion, however If you are intent on getting an animated wallpaper, there are 2 alternatives that come to mind:
Deskscapes: Designed basically to do exactly what you want; but cost 10$ (it does have a free trial though)

Rainmeter:
extremely versatile, and powerful program, capable of many functions (including running animations on your desktop). The only downside is it can be a bit complicated and overwhelming to get properly working.

Of the 2 I would strongly recommend rainmeter, if you have the time to figure it out..
@Jcee: Thanks for posting those alternatives!
@SZ0087: It's not a currently planned feature, so I can't offer an ETA as of yet. Sorry!

Hi, I purchased display fusion a couple of years ago, but this is my first time posting on the forums. Forgive my disregard to whatever protocols that may exist.
I'm simply wondering if there is a way to set an animated .gif file as my desktop background image?
Thanks in advance for the response.

While were on the subject; Might I suggest WebM as it is superior to gif in virtually every way.. (it can run at 60fps & 1080p with very low resource usage) It supports sound to! (though I would suggest an option to auto-mute it when any window besides the desktop is in focus)

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the stardock program...
It's absolute garbage. Sorry! First, it doesn't work with .gif files. Second, it is a massive resource hog. Third, has a horrible and buggy interface. Finally, it is extremely limited in what it can do. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone - even your enemies! Oh yeah, and it requires you to install 2 other add-on bloatware programs, and the "free" trial will only work AFTER you confirm an email address so they can spam you.
Regardless, thanks for the input!
It's very strange that a simple program doesnt exist that allows users to embed .gifs or video files into their desktop backgrounds. It's a feature that I see countless of requests for.

Wow this post is still going? And webm seems like a much better candidate than gif.
