Hey,

I appear to suffer from the known issue

Windows not coming to front when clicked (this is a Windows 10 bug triggered by any program that uses TOPMOST on its windows)

Specifically it appears to be explorer, Outlook and chrome.

It will work fine for 20 minutes or so then those window just wont come up when I click on them in a display fusion window.

Is there a way other than restarting fusion to get these windows working again? just as a work around till there is a permanent fix :)

There are a couple of other workarounds:
  • Set the taskbars to the bottom position, instead of left or right.
  • Or, enable the Advanced Setting in the attached screenshot.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue since Windows 10 force-upgraded to version 1511 (before then I was running the initial release of Win 10 64). I have since uninstalled the displayfusion beta 8, and the problem persists with same symptoms as OP. Is there some change displayfusion would have made to my system that persists even after an uninstall, or is this a Windows 10 version 1511 bug? Please note, my taskbar is located at the bottom (not the left or right).

Thanks for any help...this bug is a major productivity killer.

P.S. How do I enable e-mail notifications for threads I've participated in?

It's not a bug specific to DisplayFusion. This happens in Windows 10 with any applications that set application windows as "topmost." If you've uninstalled DisplayFusion and it's still occurring, there's likely another application on your system that uses topmost as well. Unfortunately I'm not sure how you'd find the application, so you'll probably have to exit them one at a time and find it through process of elimination :(

OK, thanks, Keith. A related question, given this ongoing difficulty with TopMost. I was playing around with the Triggers feature of DF, hoping I could force windows to come to the front. However, I don't see an option for "Send Window to Front" under "Run Function", only "Send Window to Back". Is it possible to add this option? It might help mitigate this bug until Microsoft addresses it.

Also, have you, as a developer, reported this bug to Microsoft? If not, you might pull more weight than we "average Joes". I see very little re: this bug when searching via Google, so I'm not sure how much visibility this issue has with Microsoft at the moment.

Thanks!

We have reported it to them, but it didn't go anywhere. We don't have any contacts deep enough at Microsoft, unfortunately.

Regarding a "Bring to Front" function, there isn't one, because just passing focus to a window is supposed to bring it to the front :)

You can try creating a Scripted Function with just this line, though it may suffer the same issue:

Code

BFS.Window.Focus(windowHandle);

Thanks!

Hello, Binary Fortress developers and users. Just wanted to say that I still suffer from this issue. I realize that it is a Microsoft Issue and not specific to DisplayFusion, but I thought I'd post this for others who may experience, now or in the future, this issue. Here's the thread that references it over at Microsoft:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-start/selected-window-not-pulling-to-front-when-clicked/304e31ed-3de4-4b82-9e0d-12b1e0747b86?auth=1

Although some users are saying it's been resolved via Windows Updates, I'm still not so lucky.

Yeah, I still run into this issue here, so it's definitely not resolved in any recent Windows Updates :(
