Hi!
I am new to DisplayFusion--i purchased the pro edition hoping that it will solve a problem for me. My second monitor is a touchscreen, and i need for an app that is launched from a desktop shortcut to open only on the touchscreen. Also, any screens that it would spawn would also need to open on the touchscreen only. The app and its children all open in full screen mode, which is what they are supposed to do.
I have tried using the windows location feature, but the app seems to ignore it and opens on the primary display. Am i going about this the wrong way?

The Window Location feature should do the trick, but it sounds like the app may not be generating new window notifications, or it may be hard coded to launch on the Primary monitor. After the window has opened, if you press Ctrl + Win + X, does it move to the other monitor?

the app opens full-screen on the primary monitor, but CTRL-WIN-X will move it to the other display.

Ok, could you try adding a delay in the Window Location rule? Try setting it to 15 or 20 seconds to see if that helps. If not, could you remove the delay again, and then do the following?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Launch the program and note the time so I'll know where to check in the log (also note the process name)
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

Hi, Keith:

I added a delay as you suggested, first for 18 seconds to no avail, then i tried it at 22 seconds, and again, no luck. The only delay i saw between double-clicking the shortcut and the full screen display opening up was at the most 3 seconds, if that. It acted as if it was ignoring the delay timer. I am attaching the displayfusion.log file as you requested.

The event timings on the log file are as follows:
15:34:15=launched the idtouch1.exe application, it opened full-screen on the primary monitor, instead of the secondary monitor i had instructed it to open on in Window Location.
15:34:26=used CTRL-WIN-X to move the screen to the secondary monitor
15:34:52=swiped RF card on reader to force the screen to change to its next "iteration",i.e. to interact with the operator. When the "child" screen opened, it did so on the primary monitor again.
15:35:07=used CTRL-WIN-X to move the screen back to the secondary monitor.

After that, i downloaded the displayfusion.log file to a usb dongle in order to bring it to my other workstation to upload it.

I am now almost sure that this app is hard-coded to open on the primary monitor.

Yep, I don't see any new window notifications from that process in the log at all, so unfortunately DisplayFusion can't detect when it's actually opened :(

I did write an AutoHotKey script a while ago that would poll on an interval for a different application that did similar things when launching, and just move it if it detects the process. If you like I can try to dig it up and send it over :)

Thanks!

Hi, Keith:

Given that this app is demanding to be opened in the primary display, is there a way to force everything else to open on secondary display?--other than listing all the other apps in the window location dialog, a wild-card perhaps?

There sure is! Just put *.* in the Application box for the Window Location rule, and then choose the monitor and set the mode to "All Windows." That will make all windows for all applications match the rule, and the one you were trying to move previously will just ignore it, so hopefully that will work :)

Hi, Keith:
Sorry so long to reply--will try the wild-card and do some testing with that. Thanks for the info!

Hi All!

I'm sorry, but I have nearly the same problem.
All Client windows of my started application are moved to the second monitor.
But the main window stays at the primary window.

Can you please so kind to give me a suggestion what can be wrong?

Application Name: K128599_ATTApp.exe

Thanks in advance!

best regards,
Chrisian Konrad

@EVG: Thanks for the log! Would you also be able to send me Window Detective info for the main window? I've attached instructions on how to do that :)

Thanks!

Hi Keith!

Thanks for the quick Response!

I'm pretty sure that I made a mistake but I didn't found it yet ;-)

Anyway, here is the attached window detective info!
And the screenshot of it.

Many, Many thanks in advance!

best regards,
Chrstian

Thanks! Is there a demo version of this app that we could try here?
