Unfortunately DisplayFusion isn't able to scale applications down to the full monitor resolution within a split. The way it works is that when you tell the window to maximize, DisplayFusion sets the window to the size of the split, the same as manually re-sizing a window. Usually we recommend higher resolution monitors for more viewing space with splits. For example, a 4K monitor with a 2x2 split configured would give you 4 1080p splits.
