1. Is there a simple way to have an application open on a specific monitor?
2. If the chosen monitor is not powered on can the app default to an available monitor?

You can do this with Trigger rules, yep! Please see this guide for details: Working with Triggers

If the monitor you've selected in the Trigger rule isn't enabled, DF will just skip that rule when the application opens.

I have set Chrome to open on monitor 2.
Works fine if monitor is switched on.
However if the monitor is switched off then nothing happens.
But when it is powered up the the window opens on monitor 1.

To clarify, if monitor 2 is off, nothing happens, but if monitor 2 is on, then it moves there as expected?

After powering on monitor 2, are you opening the window from scratch, or just restoring it from minimized/taskbar?

Monitor 1 is always on. Monitor 2 is normally off.
The app (Netflix) is pinned to the taskbar, so I start it from there.
Nothing happens but the taskbar shows the app is active when I move the mouse across the icon.
I then power on Monitor 2 and the app comes up on Monitor 1.
If I minimise and restore, or close and reopen the app it remains on Monitor 1 until I move it to Monitor 2.
Monitor 1 is a Dell connected via VGA, Monitor 2 is a Samsung TV connected via HDMI.
I get the same behaviour with Google Chrome.

Ok, could you send me a debug log for this issue?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Try opening the Netflix app (close it and re-open it, not minimize/restore) and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!
