I have just one monitor and, aside from any passive features, I only use DisplayFusion to set static wallpapers. I usually do this by opening "Desktop Wallpaper Settings" and dragging an image onto the monitor profile from an Explorer window.
The last two December 2024 updates for Windows 10 have removed the ability for me to drag and drop an image to the monitor profile. The mouse pointer shows this is a forbidden action by changing to a black circle with a slash.
Dragging an image over the "Load Image" memo field (not the button) in the "Wallpaper Source" section shows as a permissible action by displaying a "+copy" flair next to the pointer. However, when the image is dropped, it opens in an unfamiliar image preview window rather than populating the field. I am guessing this image preview originates from either DisplayFusion or Edge. I say unfamiliar because it is not my default viewer (Windows Photo Viewer) and it is not identified in the title bar. The window has an address bar populated with an uneditable file path and a site information button (an 'i' within a circle) which informs "You're viewing a local or shared file".
There is no obvious way to set this image preview as a wallpaper and the drag-and-drop action doesn't change the image path in the memo field. Despite the pointer flair, nothing seems to be copied at all.
The only way I've found to change the wallpaper in recent versions is via the "Load Image" button, manually selecting an image from an explorer window. This is exceedingly tedious, of course, and greatly reduces the usefulness of the app.
Is there any way I might restore the expected behavior?
Edit: I have the Steam version of DisplayFusion...
