For some unknown reason, when I reboot and have DisplayFusion set to start automatically, all my desktop icons get hidden. The problem goes away if I stop DF from starting with windows. As it currently stands I always have to right click on the desktop then go to View-Show Desktop Icons

DisplayFusion 3.20 (and earlier)
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Display : Radeon HD 5870 : 1280x1024 + 1920x1200 + 1280x1024

Can you try disabling DisplayFusion's wallpaper support and reboot again? Is it when DisplayFusion changes the wallpaper that the icons disappear, or just having DisplayFusion startup? Another thing to try is run DisplayFusion as an Administrator. Exit DisplayFusion, right-click the DisplayFusion shortcut and select "Run as Administrator". Let DF startup, then exit it. Run DisplayFusion normally after this and it should work ok. :)

Thanks for the reply,

Just thought I'd confirm before following your advice, but the icons didn't get hidden. it's really rather random. I'm not entirely sure if it's DisplayFusion that's to blame here. However, I completed the steps regardless and the problem hasn't resurfaced. Can't say 100% if that's what it was though.

I have this exactsame issue. My desktop icons are there until DisplayFusion starts and they disappear. I have to View->Hide icons and the View->show icons to get them back.

@Julie: Which version of Windows? Is DisplayFusion setting your wallpaper on startup?

I too am having the same problem. WinXP (oldest machine in the house) and the latest DF update (8.0?)

I would add that I checked the Desktop folder, and all of the icons/shortcuts remain in that folder at the same time that they are NOT appearing onscreen.

ETA: I have now disabled DF at startup and disabled the toggle that puts DF in charge of desktop wallpapers. My desktop icons are STILL missing from the screen, despite the fact that they appear in the Desktop folder in Users.

ETA2: I did some troubleshooting. First, I created a new Windows User, then I copied my entire Desktop folder into the new User's personal directory.

All of the icons are located where they should be when I log into Windows as the new User. The problem definitely lies with DF, and not with Windows.

If it happened after disabling DF at startup, it can't be DF causing it. Creating a new user account on your computer would clear a lot of things, not just DF settings. I can't imagine what it could possibly be though :(

I did a quick search, and found a few threads about this in the Microsoft forums too: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-desktop/desktop-icons-keep-disappearing-after-every-reboot/8bd405fe-6bbe-4f50-96d5-30174810d254. Their solution was the same, which was just to create a new user account.

I actually discovered that the "Show Desktop Icons" option in "View" was toggled off. I did not do this, and the only thing that changed was installation of DF. The problem has not recurred, so I am not going to worry about it!

Have a great day.

Sorry for not following it up when I figured it out. It turned out not to be DF's fault in my case. It was InfraRecorder (a CD burning tool). Turned out that every time it was launched it would hide the desktop icons on the next reboot.

No worries, that would have been a tricky one to figure out! Thanks for the update :)
