I have noticed an issue with DF after upgrading to 9.3 from 9.2.4 (I think).

I have 2 monitors, all desktop icons are on my primary monitor which is monitor # 2, both are 1920x1080.

The icons are at the very top, very left, very right edge; and hard against the task-bar (bottom) of the screen. Using align icons to grid.

I have used this configuration for many months without any problems whatsoever.

However, after upgrading to 9.3 when DF is closed (via restart, logoff, exit, shutdown) on restart some icons are moved. They are moved in a consistent manner.

When DF has started I can correctly reconfigure the icon locations by manually loading the correct profile or by setting the monitor configuration to use the correct icon profile.

I have implemented the monitor configuration and this working as expected, however, it wasn't previously needed for the same icon layout.

On restart I see the correct icon layout, when DF starts the icons move, then a few seconds later the profile is loaded and all is good.

Is this a known issue with 9.3?

It's not really a bug, but this has happened since the beginning of time. I've never figured out what the actual trigger is, but it does have to do with the icons being directly above the taskbar. I'll try to explain it as best as I can:

  • When Windows starts, before DF launches, the monitor's "work area" is 1920x1080, so the Windows icon grid is based on that resolution.
  • When DisplayFusion starts, the taskbar loads, and this changes the work area to something like 1920x1040, or whatever the monitor height minus the taskbar height is. This causes the icon grid to change, depending on what the work area changes to, (or maybe it just refreshes?) which can sometimes cause the icons to get jumbled as well.

As to why it's only now started doing this on your machine, I really couldn't say, but using the Monitor Profile/Desktop Icon Profile assignment is the best way to work around it.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks!
