My Windows 10 installation corrupted over the weekend and I had to reinstall from scratch, giving me a clean Windows installation on a clean drive. I have DisplayFusion through Steam and reinstalled from there, pointing it to my old wallpapers folder for endless shuffling. However, the desktop remained the solid black default from Windows. Nothing I've done has made the desktops appear in anything *except* the DF preview. Windows 10's desktop settings seem to also now be broken too, where pictures don't work at all and just default back to Solid Color while Slideshow is just stuck on one image that never changes. Uninstalling DF didn't fix that either.
I've tried running DF with admin privileges - nothing. Reinstalled DF - nothing. Downloaded the registry key templates from this site, unzipped to the specified directory... still nothing and I can't find the keys to update in the registry editor to even check if these are being set correctly. In the middle of all of these I've even rebooted the computer several times to try and see if that would force a settings change. Checked account permissions, there's only this single user account and its at administrator level. I even tested having the lock screen use the current DF desktop and strangely despite not having any desktop wallpaper visible it does pull the image up correctly on the lock screen.
I'm at the end of my rope, I've had this program for probably ten years and never had any issues even through multiple Windows re-installations or upgrades. I cannot figure out how to fix it and now I can't even just give up and revert to the Win10 defaults because I think DF broke that too.
EDIT: Well uh... after a few more hours of trying things, including restoring a registry key backup from before the new installation, adjusting administrator settings on the shortcuts, and reinstalling my graphics driver... it just randomly started working! So, problem solved? Hopefully for good. I'll come back if the problem returns, since I'm not sure what I did to fix it.
