This is on Windows 7 SP1 x64 and x86 Professional.

If you assign www.bing.com website to the second taskbar, the Bing icon does not show up on the IE9 icon. Then if you move the Bing icon up, shutdown and restart DF, the Bing/IE9 icon assumes a totally incorrect icon. See attached video. I have also attached a DF log.

Just tested this out, and didn't run into any issues. Would you be able to do the following?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Detailed) and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Send me the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab) and also a copy of the info from the Troubleshooting tab itself
  • Disabled debug logging after sending the log
Thanks!

Here are the logs requested. The time was 3:59+ pm when I started.

This is 100% repeatable on my Windows 7 systems.

Update:

If I add the Bing website as http://www.bing.com, the failure described above occurs 100% of the time.

If I add the Bing website as http://bing.com, everything works properly. The Bing icon appears as part of the IE9 icon properly. And moving the Bing icon up and down on the task bar does not cause any improper icon to appear.

Thanks! I couldn't reproduce the Bing icon not showing up, but there's some info in the logs that might be helpful, so we're going to look into that closer.

As for the issue with it getting the completely wrong icon when moved and DisplayFusion is restarted, I was able to confirm that by disconnecting from the Internet first. So it appears that if the favicon can't be grabbed for whatever reason, the wrong icon is loaded by the taskbar.

Thanks for sending that info in! I've added this to our list, and I'll post an update as soon as we have one.

Just a quick update. In DisplayFusion 4.1, the issue with the URL shortcut getting the completely wrong icon should now be fixed up. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to figure out why www.bing.com doesn't work for you, but bing.com does. Both URL's work perfectly for us every time. If we can think of anything else regarding that, we'll post an update.

Thanks!

Another quick update, for the bing.com vs. www.bing.com issue. Could you do the following?
  • Update to DisplayFusion 4.1
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Create a shortcut for bing.com (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Create a shortcut for www.bing.com (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Send me the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging
Thanks!

This is with DF V4.1 on Windows 7 SP1 x64 and x86 Professional. The time of the test is 1:31 a.m. on 20-Aug-2012. bing.com works and displays as it should; www.bing.com is still missing the "Bing" favicon imbedded in the IE9 favicon (see attached picture). The log is attached.

Ok, we've hopefully gotten this fixed up for 4.2 Beta 4. Could you give it a try when you have a chance, and if the bing favicon still doesn't load correctly, send another copy of the debug log?

Thanks!

It is still not fixed.

This is with DF V4.2Beta4 on Windows 7 SP1 x64 and x86 Professional. The time of the test is 2:56 p.m. on 06-Oct-2012.
Http://bing.com works and displays with the "Bing" favicon imbedded in the IE9 favicon.

Ok, thanks! Looks like the log has the extra info that we're looking for, so we'll investigate it some more.

Could you try these two URLs in Internet Explorer to see if the Bing icon shows? The log is showing that those pages are not returning proper icons to DisplayFusion.

Both of the links show an favicon when opened within IE9. If I add them to the DF taskbar, they do not show an embedded Bing icon.

Ok, strange! The DisplayFusion debug log shows that those URLs are not returning proper images, but if they're loading in your browser, they should be working fine. We'll keep digging and see what else we can find.

Just wanted to post a follow-up on this. Unfortunately we're not able to fix it up, as it seems to work fine everywhere we test it, but your log is showing that for some reason, www.bing.com is not returning the correct icon data :(

Since http://bing.com works, I would recommend just using that as a workaround on your system.

Thanks!
