Start10 interop/compatibility related:
DisplayFusion kills the Windows 10 start menu when invoked if Start10 is on the system AND DF taskbar is shown on primary monitor.

Steps to reproduce:
  • 1. Advanced Settings -> Show on all monitors = True
  • 2. When the Start10 menu is invoked select the top-most option "Windows 10 menu" to attempt to invoke the default Windows start menu.
  • or
  • 2.alt In Start10 set any option that would invoke the Windows 10 menu.

Expected Result:
User is able to invoke either Start Menu

Actual Result:
Windows 10 Start Menu is killed by DF. Start10 Start Menu only survives.

On a secondary monitor (where the Windows taskbar is not present, only the DF taskbar) attempting to invoke the Windows 10 Start Menu will also result in it being killed if 'Show on all monitors=True'.

Either Start Menu may be toggled if 'Show on all monitors=False'.

It seems to work ok for me when I test it here. Are you also using something to hide the Windows taskbar?

When I am hiding the Windows taskbar I am doing it with an AutoHotKey script. I've attached a short video where the Windows 10 Start Menu gets killed (and the AHK script is not running).

Thanks for the video! I've tested with my setup like yours, with the taskbars on the sides, and still can't get it to happen. Could you send me a debug log?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Sorry for the wait! Attached is the log you requested. I made a few attempts beginning at 9:18 AM using both the Start10 Windows 10 Menu entry and Shift+Win modifier (an option I set in Start10) to invoke the stock start menu. That stock menu is killed each time.

Thanks! I was able to reproduce this, and I think I can see what's happening here. It's happening because of another workaround we had to make for the start menu, so we'll have to see if there's a way to fix this without breaking the other workaround.
