I know I can exit the program via the appropriate icon, but I want to be able to set the system back to duplicate displays and not extended mode, so that I can operate the notebook stand alone. Is there a simple way of doing this? Am I missing something.

Exiting DisplayFusion won't touch the monitor configuration at all. You should be able to change the monitor configuration in the Windows display settings though :)
