I am using DisplayFusion Pro on Steam 9.1 and I unchecked "Allow DisplayFusion to manage the Desktop Wallpaper". When I change the Windows wallpaper to any color, it's fine, but when I change it to an image, the image appears for a few seconds and then it forces the windows wallpaper to be just black. This only happens when DisplayFusion is open and when DisplayFusion is supposedly not allowed to manage the desktop wallpaper. When it's closed the wallpaper is fine. On restart displayfusion forces it black again.

Looks like this is a bug with the "Autofix wallpaper images when wallpaper feature is enabled" option in DisplayFusion Wallpaper > Wallpaper Settings. Disabling that for now should resolve this issue, and we've added this to our list to fix up.

Thanks!

Hey Keith!

I also have the same issue on Pro 9.1. Whenever Displayfusion starts, it keeps setting the Windows wallpaper back to black, and keeps doing every few seconds (even if I change Windows wallpapers).

"Allow DisplayFusion to manage the Desktop Wallpaper" is unchecked.
"Autofix wallpaper images when wallpaper feature is enabled" is unchecked (as is everything else in wallpaper settings).
Checked to see if Monitor Profiles was causing the issue, but Monitor profiles has "Wallpaper Profile" as blank.

Ok, after further testing, I can only reproduce it if I select the DisplayFusion generated image in the Windows wallpaper settings. If I select any other image, it works fine. Can you guys confirm 100% that it gets changed to blank when selecting any image, not just the DisplayFusion generated image?

That does partially seem to be the case. If I pick a completely different wallpaper in Windows, it does not reset. However, I'm not using the exact same wallpaper for Displayfusion and Windows.

Here's how I actually configured my wallpapers in Displayfusion and Windows (dual monitors)
Displayfusion:
Each monitor has its own wallpaper, set through DisplayFusion settings.
Windows:
Combined the two wallpapers into a single image (tried both PNG and JPG) and set using "Tile" or "Span" through Windows wallpaper chooser so wallpaper goes across both monitors.

So even if I manually go and choose the merged larger wallpaper in Windows, the screen still gets set back to black in a few seconds, even though it isn't exactly the same thing as the two individual wallpapers set through DisplayFusion. I'm not sure how Displayfusion does the wallpaper merging but I'm assuming it is the same as creating the larger merged wallpaper, since it still resets the Windows wallpaper when I use the merged on in Windows, and the unmerged wallpapers through Displayfusion. And you did say that the resetting only happens when selecting the Displayfusion wallpaper in Windows wallpaper chooser.

DisplayFusion stitches them together and then sets that as the Tiled wallpaper as well. I noticed in the Windows wallpaper settings, it doesn't show the file names for the last used images, so I wonder if you're picking the DisplayFusion generated image, as it would look the same as yours (assuming you stitched the same images together). If you click Browse and pick your image, does that work?

Yeah I was using "Browse" to look for wallpapers in my previous reply which is why it was confusing me. Didn't click the image thumbnails in the wallpaper chooser at all.

Strange! Can you reproduce it again with a non-DF image and let me know what the image filename is?

What did you mean by that? In DF I loaded my own wallpapers (2 with different names), but in Windows I merged them in Photoshop or something and just exported them as "Merged.jpg" and "Merged.png".

Sorry for the confusion! I was just wondering what file name you were picking in the Windows wallpaper for your merged image. Could you send me a debug log for this issue?
  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Choose an image in the Windows wallpaper settings and note the time
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Sorry I have been away. Don't know what changed over the past 2 days (maybe reboots?) but it seems like Displayfusion stopped forcing the wallpaper change. I'll keep an eye out and get you the logs if it happens again. Thanks Keith and happy holidays!

Weird! Glad to hear it's at least working now, definitely let me know if it breaks again.

Thanks!

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I bought DisplayFusion just a few seconds ago and the first thing I noticed, even before I started the application UI itself, is that it completely messed up all my wallpapers. I'm not able to restore the wallpapers now even after unclicking "Allow DisplayFusion to manage the Desktop Wallpaper" and "Autofix wallpaper images when wallpaper feature is enabled". DisplayFusion keeps setting it to either black or tile, if I select the image. This is not good that the bug exists since 2017 and still not fixed. I'm requesting my refund now.

Hello,

No, I purchased the application on Steam (the last option here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Purchase/)
