So I just updated to DisplayFusion Pro 11.0 (Beta 5) a little while ago. I have 3 monitors, with DisplayFusion taskbars on two of them and my settings for windows showing on the taskbars is "All taskbars show all windows."
After tonight's update to 11.0, suddenly Discord will NOT show up on either of the two DisplayFusion taskbars. While Discord is first starting up, it will show on them, but as soon as it's fully open, it disappears from both taskbars, remaining visible only on the main (Windows) taskbar. Additionally, my keyboard shortcuts for moving a window to the next or previous monitor no longer work with Discord. JUST Discord - these keyboard shortcuts will still cause any other window or program to snap to whatever monitor as normal, but Discord refuses to respond to these shortcuts.

Very weird problem! Discord has always behaved itself with regard to these DisplayFusion features, until tonight. Coincidentally, Discord itself was ALSO updated earlier, but I don't recall these issues coming up until DF was updated. Any insight into what could cause (or fix) this? Thanks!

That's really strange! I can't seem to reproduce that issue here.

Could you attach a copy of your settings (Settings > Options > Export), and also send over a debug log?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log
Thanks!

Thanks for replying! Suddenly became unexpectedly busy since posting this so apologies for not following up yet - I'll follow the below steps and post the requested logs later today (Friday).

EDIT: Very delayed edit to add the "Settings" export as well. I somehow missed that part, lol. But both files should be attached now.

Okay! I hope I followed all the steps correctly. Attached is a zip file that was generated when I hit "Export Info to File". The time when I restarted DisplayFusion and then opened Discord (and watched as it was on the 2nd/3rd monitor taskbars for a brief moment, but then vanished once it was opened) was 5:35 PM (17:35). I then clicked my "move to next monitor" keyboard shortcut a few times while discord was selected.

Let me know if you need anything else from me. Thanks!

Thanks! We're pretty sure we can see the reason in the log and will hopefully have a fix for it in the next beta :)

I'll keep my eyes open for the next beta, then! Hopefully it can be resolved then.

Is there any kind of predictable release schedule for those? Or just "when the next beta is ready, it's ready". Completely understandable if it's the latter, of course, but I figured I'd ask just in case there's a time frame I'm not aware of.

Thanks!

It's the latter, as we have quite a few products and we shift priorities around as-needed :)

Could this explain why most of the time for the past little while, any time I have a game running for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour, Discord's taskbar button will just disappear for no reason from the DF taskbar that's on my secondary monitor? I have the taskbar mode set to
All taskbars show relevant windows
. Whenever this happens to Discord, I can only make Discord the focused application by either alt+tabbing or by clicking Discord's system tray button.

It could be related yep. We'll fix up the code issue we found and then we'll get you to re-test to see if you still run into that.

Just encoutered this same issue with 11.0 Beta 5 and came here to post about it, only to find someone already mentioned it.

Glad to know there's a fix coming. I use Discord rarely, but it's still annoying. :P

We've released a new beta that might fix this up, can you try it out and let me know if the issue persists? Here's the link: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Unfortunately, this did not fix this issue for me.

I regret to report that this also did not fix the issue on my end. Downloaded the update last night, but the issue persists today (after a couple of restarts).

I know you had asked the other poster to post a debug log - if it would help, I can send another debug log as well later today or this evening.

Sorry, I just saw this. Attached is my log at 11:34pm CDT on 9/11/24.

Note, Discord does not show up on the DF taskbar or in the DF alt-tab menu. I moved Discord between windows while running the log and also tried to alt-tab to it.

Hope this helps! I love DF and have used it for years, but I use Discord daily and it's the main use for my second screen. Thanks again for looking into it.

Just to add my experience... I've noticed that the Discord icon will disappear from the DF Taskbar most consistently when I happen to be streaming with Discord for at least a few minutes.

Thanks for the troubleshooting info and the extra context guys! I've added those to the issue notes. We'll keep you posted when we think we have it sorted out in a new beta.

Whoops! Been busy and forgot about this thread. You probably already have what you need, but I'll attach another log here following the steps from a few posts back in case it helps. Thanks for looking into this!

I restarted Discord at 10:24PM CDT on the 15th of Sep., and exported the log one minute after that.

@Saito: From that troubleshooting info, it looks like the DisplayFusion taskbars are disabled. Did you disable the taskbars while gathering the debug logs?

That's odd - the DisplayFusion taskbars are definitely not disabled; they are always present when my computer is on (including a couple nights ago when I posted the log), and the "Enable taskbars" checkbox is checked in DF settings.

@Saito: Weirdly, the log shows that DisplayFusion is moving the Discord window to the DF taskbar. Could you send us Window Inspector info for Discord when it's on the monitor with the DF taskbar?

  • Install one of our other apps, Window Inspector: https://www.binaryfortress.com/windowinspector (it's free)
  • Move Discord to the monitor with the DF taskbar, confirm its button is still on the Windows taskbar
  • Open Window Inspector
  • Hover over the Discord window with your mouse so that the affected window's info shows in the Window Inspector window
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + F1 to freeze the timer in Window Inspector
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + F2 to save the info from Window Inspector to a file
  • Send me the file from the previous step

Thanks!

Done! Never used this tool before but I followed the instructions you gave and it seemed to work fine. The file is attached.

Hi Keith, can you tell me how I can go about creating a log/debug file for you? I can replicate the bug with Discord disappearing from the DF Taskbar (and permanently staying on the Windows Taskbar on my primary display) 100% of the time that I go to stream/share my screen in a voice channel or call in Discord. And it happens every time regardless of the type of application that I stream to Discord, including any game, any browser window, VLC, etc.

Ahoy all. Wanted to report that after downloading a Display Fusion update which just became available today (v11, beta 8), this issue seems to be fixed! The Discord icon is back to staying on the DF taskbars as well as the main Windows taskbar. Happy to have this feature back, since the Windows taskbar on my main monitor would be covered up whenever I put anything into fullscreen on that monitor - this meant that the only way I'd see notifications for Discord messages was with the icon in the system tray, which is a lot easier to just not notice compared to the taskbar notifications.

Thanks for working this out!

Confirming that v11.0 (Beta 8 ) resolves this issue. Thanks!

I just tried re-enabling DF's alt-tab (Discord wouldn't show up when using DF's alt-tab either), but unfortunately I can't seem to get DF's alt-tab to work at all now, but that may be a separate issue.
