After I downloaded and installed Displayfusion 6.1.1 today, it crashes very often.
What should I look for in the log to debug this?
I have not had problems with crashes before 6.1.1.
6.1 worked fine.

Is there a way to downgrade?

Bummer! Could you send us some debug logs?
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "Logging: All Lines"
  • In the Settings > Advanced Settings window, enable the "Logging Disable Buffer" and "Logging Advanced Mode" options
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • The next time it crashes, note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Enabling Logging Disable Buffer means to set it not to buffer?
My options are Logging will be buffered(default value)
and
Logging will not be buffered.

I dont know which is enabled in this case. hehe.

It crashed at 09:04 and then again at 10:28 today.
I did one with logging buffered, and one without, since I didnt know which was which.

First is 09:04 logs.

I have been experiencing crashes/freezes since the new update as well. Do you have anything to try to fix this problem?

@Leon: Thanks for the logs! Your issue will be fixed in 6.1.2, which we're hoping to get out tomorrow.

@Stacey: Could you send over logs, as per the steps in post #2?

@Stacey: Thanks! After DisplayFusion has been running for a bit, if you check the Windows Task Manager, are there more than two instances of the DisplayFusionHookApp processes running?

@Keith Thanks so much. I use it a lot at work, so its a pain when it crashes.
I love this app, and can barely live without it. Hehe.

Ok, we've just posted 6.1.2 (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/). Could you give it a try and let me know how it works out?

I just installed the updated and then rebooted. Seems worse now. Before I would get a windows error stating that the program was unresponsive, but I could "wait" for it to return. Now it just shuts down and I have to manually open it again.

Attached are my new logs (if they tell you anything). latest crash about 1:26pm.

I will test 6.1.2 when I get back to work tomorrow.
I have held off on updating on my home computer for now, just in case.
I will let you know when I have had a chance to use it.

Think I may have found my problem. I disabled my taskbar-Magic and now (with the update) I don't seem to be crashing. Still need to let it run longer but I haven't had any issues in over an hour.

I installed the Taskbar-Magic on the advice of another post in this forum because the default windows taskbar kept popping up and getting in my way. Someone suggested using this app on startup to disable that taskbar (since DisplayFusion doesn't have that feature yet) and it seemed to work until this last update.

I'll let you know if I encounter anymore issues.

Quick question. When it crashes, which of the following things does it do?
  • Terminate without an error
  • Terminate with an error
  • Hang, requiring you to manually terminate it

I guess Terminate without error. It shows the standard windows error that it has stopped responding, and I have to fore it to close, otherwise it just hangs indefinetly.

Hi there,

I have been having the same problem since I upgraded from v5 to v6, now running 6.1.2 and it's crashed twice today.
I've enabled logging so I post the log files next time it happens, from memory mine terminates with an error.

Ok, would you guys be able to enable a couple of extra options in the Advanced Settings and then send new logs when it happens again? Here are the steps:
  • Update to the latest beta: http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "Logging: All Lines"
  • In the Settings > Advanced Settings window, enable the "Logging Disable Buffer" (set to "Logging will not be buffered") and "Logging Advanced Mode" (set to "Advanced logging will be enabled") options
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • The next time it crashes, note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (found in the %%localappdata%%\DisplayFusion folder)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Thanks! It looks like it hung after doing a wallpaper change. Could you try pausing your wallpaper changes for a while to see if it stops crashing? Just want to confirm that that is indeed the source of the problem.

Thanks!

Sorry for my late response.
The crashes seem less frequent now, but they do happen.
I will try and pause my wallpaper changes for a while, and get back to you on Tuesday if nothing happened.
I need at least 2 days of datagathering, and I won't be at work through the weekend.

Hi.
Is there a way I can downgrade to the version previous to 6.1.1?
Its been crashing around 20 times in the past 8 hours, and its at work.
I have applications on 3 different monitors, and when it crashes, I loose the taskbar on my aditional screens, and the apps dont get pushed to my main taskbar, so I have to alt tab through to find them, until I manage to launch DisplayFusion again.
This can be time consuming, and I need the speed, seeing as I work at a call center, and need to be efficient when customers call.
I am willing to downgrade, and then upgrade as soon as a new version comes out I can test for errors.

It seems to be just random. As I said in an earlier reply it has worked for the last month or so fine, I haven't done any major changes to my computer other than recently getting a webcam, I don't really see how that connects to OwnCloud or DF for that matter, unless the webcam software (which is "Logitech Webcam Software") could interfere possibly.

Sorry, I've moved your thread over here: http://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/displayfusion-hangdeadlock-on-systems-with-owncloud-sync-client/?ID=21071d3e-db4b-4ae6-998c-fc5bfc660db4#last

The reason we're investigating ownCloud as the culprit, is because 3 other people also reported hangs, and are running ownCloud. We also found this in the ownCloud bug tracker: http://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/displayfusion-hangdeadlock-on-systems-with-owncloud-sync-client/?ID=21071d3e-db4b-4ae6-998c-fc5bfc660db4#last. It seems to be possibly an issue since ownCloud updated to 1.7, where they added a shell extension for icon overlays.

Anyhoo, let's continue the conversation in the new thread, as the original issue in this thread was resolved and not related to ownCloud. Just trying to keep the issues separate :)

Thanks!
