We're very excited to announce that DisplayFusion 9.4 Beta 7 is now available for download! This beta fixes a bunch of issues and adds a couple of minor features.

Important Notes!

  • The first time you open the Settings > Screen Saver tab, it might be very slow to open due to Windows Defender locking the .scr files for a long time during the initial scan

DisplayFusion 9.4 Beta 7 Highlights

  • Added ScriptSettings for removing setting values
  • Initial support for Windows 10 insider build light theme
  • Taskbar and Alt+Tab improvements for detecting applications running on other virtual desktops
  • Compatibility with Hyperspace app
  • Unsplash wallpaper provider updates
  • Apps launched from the DisplayFusion taskbar now get the correct environment variables

Updating DisplayFusion

We encourage everyone to update to this new version today to take advantage of these improvements. If you've already purchased DisplayFusion, it's a lifetime license, so you can upgrade to this version at no cost! If you would like to see a complete list of all the changes, please visit the DisplayFusion Beta Change Log.

Hi,

First, allow me to say thank you for the effort on continuously deploying new versions over the last few days.

Would like to let you know that this latest beta has a regression: windows maximized to splits are spanning the full screen height, ignoring the Windows Taskbar. This makes the bottom portion of the window concealed by said taskbar.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not able to reproduce that behaviour here. Does it happen with all windows, or only certain applications?

When I attempt to Install Now, I get an error message saying Invalid data returned from server, the server may be having trouble finding the file?

Seems to be working ok for me. Could you try again and let me know if you still run into trouble?

All application windows (re-checked with chrome, skype and windows explorer). Just installed the non-beta 9.4 and I get the same behavior, when I maximize a window by clicking the maximize icon or double-clicking the taskbar, the window is expanded vertically down to the bottom of the screen ignoring the taskbar. If I use Windows' native snapping however (by dragging to the screen's edge), that window is sized perfectly. I use a simple side-by-side horizontal split on a ultra-wide monitor.

I've attached a debug dump in case it might help.

Super weird! I can't reproduce it with the same settings as you. Is your Windows taskbar set to auto-hide?

Nope, fixed and always visible. I had the exact same behavior some versions before, then it was fixed on another version and finally it came back after updating from 9.4 beta 6 to beta 7.

Ok, very strange. I'll do some more testing and see what I can find out.

Still no luck reproducing that behaviour here. Could you attach a backup of your settings? (Settings > Options > Export)

Could you also try rolling back to 9.3 to see if that makes any difference?

Tried 9.3, same behavior. I've attached an export of settings (from 9.4).

Thanks! No issues after restoring your backup either. I'm starting to suspect that maybe another app on your system might be contributing to this issue.

Would you be able to try disabling all programs from startup except for DisplayFusion, then restart and see if you can still reproduce it?

Ok, there's something in the troubleshooting info that I need to check in with our devs on. I'll keep you posted when I've heard back.

Can you give the newly released 9.4.2 a try and see if you still have the same issue? Thanks!

Updated, still the same. Tried to reset the splits (just by clicking "Reset Splits" button, then "Horizontal Split") and still the same behavior. I remember having this issue on a previous version and at the time I set a manual bottom padding to the same height as the taskbar.

Just a quick update to let you know that I haven't forgotten about this. We've been swamped from the holidays but this is on my list for next week.

Thanks!

Ok, so something is definitely weird here. The troubleshooting info indicates that DisplayFusion thinks the Windows taskbar is set to auto-hide. Could you go into the Windows taskbar settings, enable auto-hide, then disable auto-hide, and then export another copy of the troubleshooting info for me?

is the steam version not able to update to the latest beta? Been trying to check for updates with the "Check for new Beta versions" option selected, but it keeps telling me I'm on the latest version

You can update to the beta on Steam, but there aren't currently any betas available. 9.4.3 stable is the most recent version. Next beta will be 9.5 Beta 1, hopefully within a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Here you go, enabling and then disabling taskbar auto-hide did not change the behavior.

Just a heads up that we haven't forgotten about this. We're going to add some logging for the next beta so that we can get some more info and hopefully track this down for you.

Thanks!

Keith, I've found the issue! Sorry to have wasted some of your time but everything was right after I uninstalled Virtual Display Manager. Although it wasn't running on my system, it has a driver that was messing up Display Fusion's readings. Again, sorry and thank you for the effort nevertheless!

As a side note, VDM has THE features that I look for the most concerning working with splits (windows in full maximized state, full-screen video on splits) and I've noticed in other discussions that some other users search for these features too, but it's not a actual solution because it's buggy as hell. Although Display Fusion does not support those features, it's much more reliable and offers plenty of other useful features, reasons that make me a happy customer!
