Hi. I'm having some issues myself with DisplayFusion crashing (version 6.1.2) constantly, by the taskbar going "not responding". This has only occurred recently, so it may be some software/driver installations or something that affects this.
I'm not entirely sure if this is relevant to the issue here, but I have attached the "DebugInfo.html" and "DisplayFusion.log" anyways.
Last time it crashed was 16:02

@Decicus: I noticed that you're using a localized Windows 7, with OwnCloud installed. I've had two other customers report hangs with that exact setup as well. The reason that I notice OwnCloud is because it seems to be setting up a global hook, so its DLL is getting injected into the DisplayFusion processes. I've setup a test machine here with a localized Windows 7 x64, and OwnCloud, so I'll hopefully be able to reproduce this here. Two questions for you:
  • How long does it take after starting up DisplayFusion for it to crash?
  • Could you try disabling OwnCloud from starting up, reboot, and see if DisplayFusion still crashes? If we can confirm that the OwnCloud hooks are contributing to the issue, then we'll know we're on the correct path to figuring out the root cause :)

Thanks!

OwnCloud might be the issue. I have never had an issue using my localized Windows 7 version before (on previous installations), although OwnCloud has been installed since day one of this current installation together with DisplayFusion (which is well over a month by now) and the crashing only started recently (~1 week ago).
I'm going to try disabling OwnCloud on startup and then rebooting to see if that fixes the issue. As of right now I have quit OwnCloud and started up DF again to see if that works.

As for when it crashes? It varies a bit, but it's usually 30 minutes or less after starting it up.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Sounds good, just keep me posted on how it works out after rebooting and we'll continue troubleshooting from there :)

I rebooted with OwnCloud disabled at startup, left my computer on overnight and woke up this morning to DisplayFusion still running.

Ok, interesting! When ownCloud was running, did the crash seem to occur after doing anything in particular? Or was it just random? I've got DisplayFusion and ownCloud installed on a localized Windows 7 x64 install, but haven't been able to reproduce the hang/crash yet :(

Edit: I've also split this off from the original topic, because the original one was resolved and didn't involve ownCloud.

That's completely fine. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to test out. I'm willing to help getting this issue squashed.

I'm having issues again with DF crashing (repeatedly, with the similar time interval). However, OC hasn't been running for the past two days, so I don't know if it's related to this issue.

I attached the log and debug file again, the crash happened at around 13:19 local time.

Hi Keith, presume you know i have opened also a thread becuase of the same issue, running now DF 7b10
I had also OC 1.7 running however i disabled startup for OC and today without starting OC at all i had again the same crash, taskbar unresponsive so i had to kill, too bad i disabled logging because i was thinking it is indeed OC as i upgraded to 1.7 last week afterwards problems were starting..... I will reenable now also logging and check around what else was changed...

Wondering if this is maybe related to some MS Security Updates, a few of them were installed last two weeks on my system....

Cheers

Yeah, we've just noticed that the ownCloud DLL is injected into DisplayFusion, even if the application doesn't start up, because it's a shell extension. We're currently working with the ownCloud devs to try and resolve this issue, so I'll be sure to post an update as soon as we have more news.

Ok Keith, so presume when i fully deinstall OC I should no more face this issue, or ?
For testing purpose for sure i can live three days or so without owncloud in order to check and manifest your theory..
So let me know if this would be helpful for you, than i will deinstall...

Cheers MH

Yeah, if you can do that, that would be amazing. In theory, if ownCloud is contributing to the issue, it shouldn't happen after you uninstall it. Please let me know how it works out and we'll go from there :)

Hi guys! The ownCloud devs have posted up a new build that should hopefully resolve this issue: http://download.owncloud.com/desktop/daily/ownCloud-1.7.0.4313-nightly20141204-setup.exe

We've also made some changes in 7.0 Beta 11 that should hopefully help with this issue too: http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Please let me know how those work out when you've had a chance to try them out :)

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

i had fully deinstalled OC however DF7b10 still keeps crashing randomly, i recognized DF7b11 was available and installed this version which looks better no crash since running this version.
Today i have moved to DF7b12 which looks also ok, i will install now the new OC Version you mentioned and will monitor a few days again and let you know...

Cheers M

Sorry, I haven't checked this in a while.

I also installed OwnCloud version 1.7.1.4336beta1 (it was the latest I could find), as well as DisplayFusion 7.0.0 Beta 12 and I will see if the problem persists.
