Hello,
after updating to the latest update for Windows 10, I've found that DisplayFusion crashes silently. I can re-launch it and it will work for about 5 minutes before crashing again without any error. The icon will remain in the system tray until you mouse-over then it disappears.
Originally running version 9.1 when this started. Updating to version 9.5 has not had any effect.
EDIT: I've also discovered that it will still crash silently in the system tray even while the settings main window is open.
I've included a debug info file for further details.
Apologies if this is a duplicate, I did search for any posts with a similar problem prior and didn't find anything.
Could you try enabling the "Disable Application Hooks" option in the Settings > Advanced Settings window, then restart DisplayFusion and let me know if it still crashes?
My brother is an MCSE computer tech his whole life & while he was helping me this last wknd told me about a super weird issue he solved last week & the important part is it was due to a recent win10 update. I think he said it's mostly causing problems between software & hardware and reminded me of the old days when you were always 2-3 updates behind windows, because their updates were so lousy back then. I don't have your solution, but if it was me, I would probably uninstall that update until they release another one to fix it. With the way my brother was talking, that update is a problem. Hope that helps!
Unfortunately after a week of no issues with the Windows 10 update I performed the disk cleanup through Windows and removed those files (my hard drive space was running low), so a rollback to the previous version is not possible.
I'd have to call me brother to confirm, but seems like he said it was a major "win 10" update causing problems, which means it made change to the main windows files.. so just running update doesn't necessarily mean they reissued a patch to fix "that" issue. But if that's what's causing it, try googling to see of other win 10 users are seeing similar issues. And you're sure you can't use your windows rollback to go back to a good instance? If it wasn't causing problems prior to the update, it's possible there may not be an easy workaround until they eventually release a patch. I remember when I was admin'ing my office network in the early 2000's I turned updates off and only ran them maybe once a year. The old "if it ain't broke, don't try fixing it!" solution & back then window updates were consisently terrible! Wish you luck solving your issue!
No, only other programs. Interestingly enough there are some for the recent timeframes that the DisplayFusion crashes occurred. Perhaps they are related?
That said, I purchased the Steam version yesterday, and aside from one crash at the start, it has been fine over the last day. I'll continue to monitor and report back.
the only one that was running in the background while I was using DisplayFusion was SVPMngr (Smooth Video Project manager), and I disabled it, but still had DisplayFusion crash. It lasted a whole day without crashing at one stage, now it's back to shorter run times.
Hello, I thought I'd try running DisplayFusion in the new Windows Sandbox function VM to see if it crashed there. Howver, it will not install as it says t requires .NET framework 4.6.2, and 4.8 is installed by default under my Windows version (therefore also installed in the Sandbox VM). The 4.8 version should cover the earlier functions of the 4.6.2 version, however DisplayFusion refuses to run after installation in the VM.
Since the Windows 10 May 2019 (1903) update I'm also experiencing frequent crashes of DisplayFusion Pro 9.5. This is most often in combination with Windows Explorer becoming non-responsive (also new since the update).
Other software that has been updated in the same time frame include VLMC Video Player and Corel Graphics 2019.
Ok, some interesting testing. I've installed version 8.0 from an install file that i had on my computer. This appears to be fine, and hasn't crashed at all, and has been running for 1218 36 hours without incident.
Unfortunately, downgrading doesn't appear to be a long term solution, as my licence (steam) doesn't work with this version.
Ok, interesting! Could you try installing the latest through Steam, and then install these versions in order until it no longer crashes? You can install them over top of the Steam install and it will keep the license intact.
For reference also, my work computer just updated to 1903 today which has DisplayFusion 9.5 (Steam) installed. So far no issues at all, 3 hours up. On my personal computer is would have crashed within minutes.
Ok, so after all the versions, I tried a few things and have had some success.
I've successfully run beta 4, and then 9.4.3 continuously after killing background services and programs. After building back up, it appears that there's a conflict with MSI Afterburner. If I leave the instance running that started automatically with Windows, DisplayFusion crashes. If I close it, then reopen, I can run display fusion without incident.
The software allows overclocking (actually one of it's main functions), but I'm not utilising that. I'm only running it in the background because a piece of monitoring software requires it to grab information (GPU utilisation, fan speeds, etc).
Ok, interesting! I've installed Afterburner here and I'll run it for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the crash with it installed. Are you running the stable version or the beta of Afterburner?
Ok, interesting! The version (non-beta) I just installed from the website is 4.6.1. Could you try updating to the latest version and let me know if it makes any difference?
i updated to that version, and it still crashed on the instance on boot. if irelaucnh DisplayFusion and close Afterburner, and then restart it, it doesn't crash.
JFI. I am running Windows 10x64 PRO Build 18362.239, DisplayFusion 9.6 Beta 1, MSI Afterburner 4.6.2 Beta 2, and Nvidia V431.60 using a Nvidia GeForce 980Ti GPU. I have experienced no problems with DF crashing. My GPU is overclocked via MSI Afterburner. Again...just for info.

Sorry for necroposting, a Google search led me to this thread. I'm experiencing silent crashes since the 2004 update, and I am also running Afterburner. Has this been resolved in the latest 9.7.1 beta? Thanks.

I've not had this issue for some time, it was resolved in one of the updates
