For currently active applications, the width is smaller than that of inactive applications. This creates a displeasing offset effect when there are so many icons that a second row begins to be filled up - the bottom row will not line up with the top row, when some applications are active and some aren't.
I'm using the latest beta. Windows 7 64bit.
Thanks.

The buttons seem to line up perfectly for me on my test machine. What's the screen resolution of your monitor that has the DF taskbar on it?
Also, do you have font scaling enabled?

Scaling DPI 125%, XP-style box checked.
DF monitor is 1920x1080, which is native for that monitor.
