For some history, I wanted to enable the DisplayFusion taskbar on the primary monitor, so I followed instructions given to me in a previous discussion I posted: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/some-windows-10-issues/?ID=40f0650f-1d48-4582-b573-368c2e522259

It works great, the only thing that really bugs me is the fact that sometimes, the DP taskbar floats above where the original one should be, even when it's hidden.
It happens when I resume from sleep, but not every time. Maybe 1 out of 10 times this happens.
I have that script-magic program running, and if I right click on it, and click "script paused" it resolves it too. However first it bumps the DP taskbar up a second level (so it's like it's stacked 3 high), then after a few seconds it resets it.

I've attached two images that show the floating behavior. I trimmed them, but it does show that I have 3 monitors, so you can see the primary taskbar (center), compared to the two on either side of it.

I know having the DP taskbar on the primary is kind of an experimental thing, and I don't know if the bug is in DP, or in that script program, so it's more of a "nice to have" fix (along with access to the Action Center).

When that happens, if you exit and restart DisplayFusion, does that resolve it?

Shoot, I already "fixed" it. I'm not sure. I think it does, but it happens quite infrequently that I don't remember.

Ok, if it happens again, could you send me a copy of the DisplayFusion troubleshooting info before fixing it?

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

I was able to repro it again by testing a few things.
It took 3 sleep cycles to trigger it, but the last step I had the following:
Firefox maximized on the primary monitor, then minimized (so it was hidden when it went to sleep, but clicking the button would restore it maximized).
Then I right-clicked on the taskbar-magic icon in the system tray. I didn't click on anything else inside that menu just the desktop to dismiss it, but right clicking the icon causes the icon to toggle between a windows icon and a red X over and over.
Then I put the PC to sleep, and when it resumed and I logged in, the DF taskbar reinitialized on all monitors.. and was offset again.

I've included the attachment you requested.

Ah interesting, so the taskbar-magic icon was set to the red X when you put the computer to sleep and woke it?

It was flashing, but yes.
Honestly, I can't make heads or tails what mode that program is in, ever.
The context menu has "Script Paused" but it's always checked no matter what, and any interaction with the icon at all causes it to start flashing (even right-clicking to open said context menu).
I can't figure out how to get it to stop flashing without restarting it.

Strange! I'd guess that if it's set to the red X then it's probably disabled. That would explain the taskbar offset the next time the DF taskbar reloads. There used to be another app that could hide the taskbar, called ShyBar, but I can't seem to find it any more.

It may work better if you just set the Windows taskbar to autohide, and don't use taskbar-magic at all, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I've tried that, the original taskbar does pop-up when you open the Start Menu or the popup the calender. When it works properly, you can't see the original one at all. Currently the taskbar is set to auto-hide, even with taskbar magic.
I don't recall if the offset issue happened or not though.

Hmm, so I took a quick look, and it seems right-clicking taskbar magic pauses it, then I have to click the menu item again to re-enable it. I may recompile that, or make my own application, as that's poor UX.
I know that you didn't make that, so I don't expect you to fix that tool. :)

No worries, glad you were able to narrow it down!
