I've been using DisplayFusion for some time now, and I'm generally very happy with it.

Since switching my HDD to one thats quite noisy, I've noticed that it's basically constantly in use, and DFs wallpaper slideshow is the reason.

I've already set the wallpaper change interval to 30 mins, for each of the three monitors, but nothing changed.

After pausing and starting the slideshow the problem stops, but starts again after some time, it's unclear to me why thats happening. It sometimes takes hours for the problem to start again.

DF even reads files and folders it has no reason to, see attached Resource Monitor screenshot, the slideshow isn't set to this HDD. It looks like that constantly.

It mostly does it with the correct folders, but in a much too high frequency.

I've attached logs, made when the problem was happening.

What could be causing this?

That's very weird, DisplayFusion shouldn't be looking at those folders unless it's included in a wallpaper profile and it's looking for images. How do you have your current wallpaper configuration setup?

I added the log with the settings, what other specific information do you need?

Thank you for the log, that's very helpful and I'll take a look at it soon. I noticed that you have log level 3 enabled which can have a heavy performance impact, I would recommend disabling the debug logging if you still have it enabled to help with performance. :)

Thank you for the tip, I enabled it specifically for troubleshooting, but only for a few seconds, as I thought that would be enough.

Thanks for letting me know. We're a bit slow right now over the holidays but in the new year I'll pass this to the developers and we'll see what we can find out for you. Thanks!

We were able to reproduce something similar here and we have an idea of what's going on. We'll let you know if we have anything further on it going forward.

Thanks!

We've released a new beta that might fix this up, can you try it out and let me know if the issue persists? Here's the link: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Thanks!

Thank you, I've tested it today and sadly the issue wasn't solved.

But I've noticed the issue starts immediadely when I'm playing a game, which is most of the time so I didn't notice before.

I've made a log that starts before there's any issue, then I started the game (Farmer's Life) and let the log run for a few secods with the issue persisting.

I also noticed the Resource monitor showing Display Fusion acessing the game folders immediately as the game starts, see attached picture.

I hope this helps solve it.

I just noticed the issue starting immediately after booting the PC, so no game running.

Just to let you know.

Is it still trying to access Steam folders when it happens on boot?

At that time it scanned the correct folders.

It didn't happen on boot since then.

DisplayFusion will scan the game files when it launches to check for an anti-cheat so it doesn't try to hook the window, this is expected. Is it causing issues when it scans the files your game launches?

I see, it was just confusing to me, but that explains it. There are no issues in this regard then.

But the issue that still persits, that DF is suddenly scanning the correct wallpaper folders for no apparent reason.

Even when I'm setting the interval to 0,10 mins there is just minor HDD activity, and everything works great.

But once I start a game, DF will scan the correct wallpaper folders, like all of them, immediately. And that never stops until I pause the slideshow or quit DF.

Is it specific to that game, or any game in your Steam library?

It happens with multiple games I've tested, Steam or not Steam. And also if Steam is not running.

Could you send over a screenshot of Resource Monitor when DisplayFusion scans the wallpaper folders?

Okay strange, we tested it on a few different machines here but we can't seem to reproduce it, so we're a bit stuck. We'll keep an eye on it and see if anyone else reports it. We'll let you know if we have anything further going forward.

thanks!
