The current Desktop Icon Profiles "feature" is overkill as well as very awkward to use at least for someone who just uses one main configuration -- which I think might be a large number of your users.
For example, after changing my desktop icon layout and wanting to save it, I have to right click on the DisplayFusion system tray icon, move the mouse cursor down over Desktop Icon item on the pop-up menu in order to view a Save Profile item on a first-level pop-out menu, then move horizontally over to it select the profile name further down on a second-level pop-out menu -- all of which requires a fairly steady horizontal and vertical mouse/hand movements so as to not "slip-off" any of the displayed pop-out menu which would require having to start the whole process over.
After doing all that, I have to also confirm I want to overwrite the named profile and then, finally, dismiss the confirmation dialog that appears after indicating, Yes, that's what I wanted to do.
There should be a super simple and fast way to a least save (if not also load) some sort of current icon profile. The save operation is more important, since that's the one used the most, at for folks with a bunch of profiles.
Thanks for the feedback Martin! There is actually a way to create a desktop or taskbar shortcut that you can use to save the Desktop Icon Profile. Could you let me know the name of your Desktop Icon Profile so that I can create the shortcut for you and attach it here for you to download?
Thanks!

My profile is called "Desktop Layout".
I'd also like to know how to do this my self, if it's not obvious from what you do/send me -- as I didn't see anything in the online help about how to do something like that. The closest related thing I found was something on the Function tab to "Load Desktop Icon Profile: Desktop Layout", but there doesn't seem to be one to save a profile.
Thanks for the reply and offer Keith.

Keith,
Haven't heard anything back from you yet -- am I missing something? I'm not sure I understand how things work here in the Discussions, but I was expecting you to respond with that shortcut for saving the Desktop icon or at the very least tell me who to create one myself.

Keith,
Since sending my last message I'd already discovered the program settings to suppress the save prompts on my own and suspected there was probably some command-line argument to some DisplayFusion*.exe that would trigger an icon profile save, just wasn't sure which and what it was -- so the information you finally provided was just what I needed --
thanks!
For anyone else who might reading this, there's a (complete?) list of command-line arguments for the DisplayFusionCommand.exe executable in the
FAQ:,
I think the easiest thing your development team to do would be to create a new built-in Function to do this and put it in the "Desktop Icons" section on the Functions tab:
This way the new feature would be smoothly integrated into the program.
Cheers.

I've noticed one minor issue with the shortcut technique of achieving this. While it saves the desktop icon positions just fine, it has an annoying side-effect of causing the DisplayFusion icon in the system tray to move itself to the beginning (left-hand edge) of the items in the tray. This is irritating because that I then need to move it back where I want it to be each time.
Just another reason to make it a built-in Function, in my opinion...
That's strange! I'll definitely test that out here and see if there's anything we can do.
Ok, thanks! I'll test it out as soon as I have a chance, and I'll keep you posted on what I find out.
Thanks! I was able to reproduce the issue here, so I'll add that to our list to see if there's anything we can do about that as well.
Just a quick update, with DisplayFusion 5.1 and up, you can now create a custom Function for saving a Desktop Icon Profile. Please see the attached screenshot for reference.

Setting up a custom function like that doesn't see to work when I try to use it to save the icon positions via the shortcut key -- and yes, I've double-checked all the custom functon settings, see screenshot attached.
One difference is I'm running v5.1 Pro, not the v5.1.1 (Beta 3) shown in your screenshot.

In the screenshot, it looks like you have the "Enable Key Combinations" option disabled. Can you try enabling that and test it again?

For those interested - I've used a nice little freeware utility for years now. Runs on Win 7 64 fine and over multiple monitors.
Check it out here: http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http://www.midiox.com/desktoprestore.htm
Just right click desktop, then "save desktop"..
