Being the IT Tech of the company I work for, I find many times that after an update is put out, I go around to employees computers and most of them have not updated the Display Fusion software for weeks after the update. This is because there are so many programs that want to be updated (adobe aire, flash, java, hp software, windows updates) and so they have learned to just ignore them. Also, most of them don't even know what the update is when they see it, so they don't do it.

My suggestion is that there be a setting I can choose on each of these machines that will allow the software to auto update itself and possibly without them even knowing. So it would run the upgrade process in the background, and all they'd see is the taskbar disappear for a moment, and then come back on.

Also, it'd be nice if when you install the software the first time, that there be an option to turn on the automatic updates right there so you don't have to remember to go turn it on after you install.

Unfortunately, truly silent updating isn't possible because of UAC in Windows Vista and Windows 7. As a result, DisplayFusion always shows the prompt first, so that you know why the UAC updater will appear. As for the updater setting, it is enabled by default during the first installation, so there's no need to include the setting in the installer. If the user disables auto-update, the installer won't re-enable it.

Well, I guess what I was meaning for the installer to have is an option to have it install automatically in the background without you knowing, not just check for updates and prompt me to update automatically.

Anyway, I see that that is a problem (the UAC that is). Good point. I've always had my UAC turned off, so I forgot about it.

Maybe then, if when the update prompted it had some additional text in it explaining that it was the multiple task bar program would help, because the employees don't recognize the name "Display Fusion" as the software that runs their multiple taskbars. Then again, they don't have to even have the multiple taskbars running since that is not all that display fusion is. So perhaps that wouldn't always help. So, I'm stumpted for a better idea. Perhaps we'll just have to let this little issue continue. It's not really a big deal since it doesn't cause any problems.

I've worked the update down to just 1 click ("Download and Install") then a UAC prompt click. Unfortunately that's best I can do without asking people to disable UAC. :)
