I'm not sure if this would be a suitable display fusion feature or if anyone knows any utils that will do this but I run various instant message programs on my compuuter such as lync/communicator (or msn/messenger) but any app will do.
I like to have it running snapped to my far right hand monitor on the right edge and is maximized vertically but only about say 150 pixels wide. This allows me to see who is online and easily start a new chat.
This works great until I maximize a window and then the new program appears over the top of the chat program and i don't see who is online/available or status changes. Now I could use an always on top feature that is built into the chat program (or a third party app) but then the chat program appears over the top of the maximized program and obscures things like the scroll bar in a long web page.
So - what I really want - is the ability for display fusion to realise I have a snapped window to the edge of a monitor and when the application is maximised (or even have a button to do it on the titlebar) that maximises the applicaton to whats left of the screen space between the edge of the screen and the snapped application ie in this case the left edge of the app on the right of my screen now becomes the right edge of my screen as far as the maximised app is concerned.
I'm using the right edge of the screen but I guess the same functionality would be useful at the top or bottom of a screen for a heads-up display application of a taskbar like application.
I hope this makes sense and this is a feature already in display fusion, could become a feature or someone knows an app that already does this. My google fu was failing to provide any obvious results.
@Andy: Will the solution that deanis posted work for you? If not, please let me know and I'll add this to our feature request list for further investigation.
My google fu seemed to be at full-strength tonight...

Deanis - thats a great application - thanks very much. I knew there had to be a solution out there somewhere but getting the right combination of keywords was the trick.
I now have my im programs nicely docked to the screen. For reference, Lync is 200px wide and Shoretel's communicator is 175px
Is the origional source
though there are 3 programs that come to mind that might meet your bill
Desktop coral This program basically snaps to any edge of the screen, and then you define the length/width you want windows to avoid when maximizing. This works well with gadgets, and whatnot, but has a very limited case
Secondly Rainmeter which is a UI suite thats great for customizing the desktop
Look for the 'DesktopWorkArea' parameter on this page for use http://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/settings/rainmeter-section
and lastly, display fusion can now split an actual screen into virtual ones right click its tray icon, select monitor profiles, create/edit, then find the splits and padding button in the bottom right
I now just use the split functionality in Display Fusion and it works great. It doesn't always work for some reason, but for the apps that I want such as our instant messaging app, it works great. Now that I have three screens I actually have it split two of the monitors - one for our phone system app, the other for our chat program.

That's what I get for not staying on top of this one... Didn't know about the built-in splits - thanks. Although they really mess with the Alt+Tab switcher when I have such a small virtual monitor.
