Hi,

A - Is it possible to force a software to open in the same monitor as the taskbar and in fullscreen? I have checked "Force application to start on same monitor as taskbar" on my icons, but some work weirdly, for example:
A1 - Whatsapp opens in the right screen, but don't expand to cover entire screen, I have to maximize it after launching.
A2 - Discord/calibre does open maximized, but it's loading splash screen shows in a weird halfway of the primary monitor.
A3 - Windows store icons sometimes show both on side monitor and in the main taskbar.

B - Is it possible to force downloaded itens to a certain screen instead of the primary one?

Thanks, your software is one of the most important ones I have and I recommend it to everyone with multiple monitor or weird monitor configurations.

Hi Daniel,

A) Are you looking to have the windows just maximized, or full screen? You should be able to maximize them using a trigger, but full screen isn't something we support.

A1) I've attached an example trigger below that should do this for you. You can add WhatsApp to the "Process Filename" match condition.

A2) I'm not too sure if we can hook those splash windows. Do the main windows for those applications move fine?

A3) Please see the third point in this post: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/windows-10-known-issues/?ID=e71e1f5e-9e07-4f7d-b179-22253db2c30f

B) Are you referring to the desktop icons? If so, unfortunately that's not something we have control over.

Thanks for the kind words!

A1 - Just maximized. I have a ultrawide vertical monitor, the middle part of it has the most screen size, that's where I would like to have whatsapp maximized. I can maximize manually just fine. The trigger didn't seem to have solved the issue. I'll send my screenshot.

A2 - The main windows move fine, the splash screen also move fine. When the discord opens it opens maximized as well, so it's just a really really minor thing, but if it could open in the middle it would be an improvement, I'll show Screenshot as well.

A3 - Ok, no biggies. Thanks for the link.

B - It's ok. I'll find some complementary software. I would like to use fences, but it seems to cause issues with displayfusion, and between them... I'll keep DF everytime.

Interesting, WhatsApp may be blocking our hooks. If you apply that trigger to a different program, like chrome for example, does it work?

Thanks!

Nope, it did not. Seems like Firefox saves the last position it was saved as almost any other program. The trigger didn't overwrite the last saved position it was before closing.

FireFox is a bit odd, it usually needs a wait timer of 1000ms at the very start of the trigger to work. Can you try adding that in and let me know if it helps?

Thanks!

It did not work neither. I've increased to 2000 and still nothing. =(

Strange, could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

Thanks for sending that over. I loaded your monitor configuration and tested out WhatsApp on my end, and this trigger seemed to work fine with it. Can you try that out and let me know if it works? You can adjust the monitor you want it moved to with the "Move window to selected monitor" action.

Thanks!

Another question btw. There is this game I play: Teamfight Tactics. there is an Overwolf app that I would put on my side windows, but it's width is bigger than my screen (It also happens on Steam's Height). Is there a way to fix it with displayfusion? I know it's probably an issue on their part, but it's very weird since my resolutions are 1980x1080 on main screen and 1080x2560 on the side monitor.

Hi Daniel,

Just to confirm, the WhatsApp window is moving to the correct split (1.2), but it's still not maximizing to that split?

Does that window refuse to resize any lower? If so, unfortunately there isn't anything we can do there, it looks like the developer has set a minimum resolution.

Thanks!

1 - The Whatsapp window is on the right screen and it does maximize, but only when I do so manually, clicking maximize after it starts! As per our test with other softwares the triggers are not working for some reason (as the firefox also don't get triggered, it only takes the "memory" of the last size I've left it before closing).
2 - What about those other softwares (TfT meta and Steam) is there anyway to solve the issue? I've sent some pictures to show you what is happening.

Hi Daniel,

1) Thanks for clarifying. Can you try adding a "Show Notification" action to that trigger, and then try to open another WhatsApp window and see if a tray notification appear? I wonder if that trigger is firing at all.

2) This comment was in relation to those windows: "Does that window refuse to resize any lower? If so, unfortunately there isn't anything we can do there, it looks like the developer has set a minimum resolution."

Thanks!

Notification is not showing! So triggers are not working. Just to be sure I have tried to change whatsapp app to firefox, same result.
Now check, this is weird. The trigger does not work when I open firefox. I tried to get one of it's tabs and move to another monitor and the trigger did work. o.O
Maybe the trigger don't work when I open the software for some reason?

Ok that's really odd, can you try using that trigger with notepad instead? Notepad shouldn't have any funky stuff going on, so it's a good application to test with.

Thanks!

It does not work with notepad either. Maybe triggers are not working when I click in the taskbar icons?

Owen's off today so I'll take over this thread for now. If you disable the "Force application to start on same monitor as taskbar" option, does the Trigger fire then? That force monitor option will override any Trigger rules for the same app.

1 - Yes! It did work... Thanks a lot (that was a simple solution, wish you were here sooner).

While you're still here, let me ask again those old questions:
(maybe you can help me or point into the right direction of how to solve)

1. Glad to hear it!

2. There isn't anything we can do there, no. Sounds like those apps just need to be updated to check the window size when on a non-primary monitor, or maybe there's some issue with DPI scaling.

3. If you add
-"Discord Updater"
to the Window Text box for the Discord trigger, does it then ignore the splash screen properly?

Is it possible to make a software open on the main monitor if I open with the regular taskbar? And open in a different monitor otherwise?

There is a catch: When this software opens it open an prompt window that I must click yes in order to use the software.

You could create a Trigger rule to move the window to the monitor that the mouse cursor is on. Check out the attached screenshot for reference.

I've tried that! I think the issue is with the catch, because of the prompt that would not allow me to move the window until I click ok, it doesn't work.

Ah I see, how long does the prompt stay up? Wondering if it would be enough to just put a Wait action in the Trigger rule so that you have time to dismiss the prompt before it runs the action.
