I had to re-install my PC and now my DisplayFusion doesn't want to work. The program loads properly however, when I try to use a wallpaper it keeps giving the error "A generic error occurred in GDI+".

It won't load any wallpaper in either monitor. I have a viewsonic and a Hanns-G monitor, with a nVidia 8500GT video card.

Any ideas?

Thanks...Alex

Can you post one of the wallpaper images you are trying to load? I would like to take a look at the file and see what's going on. Thanks!

Here's one. I've used it before.

Thanks.

I was able to load this image without any issues using DisplayFusion. Is this one of the images that is giving you problems?

Yes, but it doesn't seem to be the picture, as I've tried many of my graphics with the same results. I've even tried applying the settings without a picture and I get the same error.

Can you go onto the Troubleshooting tab in the Settings window and enabled "Debug Logging"? After you do this, use DisplayFusion to try and change your wallpaper a few times. If you still get this error can you please send me the resulting log file? You can open it from the Troubleshooting tab. Thanks!

Was a fix developed for this? I'm having the same issue. Next time it happens, I'll post the log (with debug) and the relevant image file.

Here are the relevant files. A quick glance at the log didn't show much, so let me know if there's any other info I can provide to help.

Hello,

I can confirm this error. When I tried to use the attached wallpaper it gave me the same error:

"An error has occurred while trying to load Image:C:\Users\...\Desktop\416516906_80c369267e Before The Storm_O.jpg
A generic error occurred in GDI+."

I suspect the file is to blame. Paint.NET also gave an error when I tried to open it. I converted it to bmp and it works fine now. DF no longer gives an error.

I hadn't tried Paint.net, but the file didn't give me trouble with either of the image viewers I normally use. The properties don't look all that different from my other jpgs -- any ideas what could be different about this file?

I'll try converting it to another format and back to see if it can be fixed that way.

Windows Photo Gallery opened it fine too FWIW :-P

Ok, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that I have found the source of the problem. The bad news is that I can't really fix it. The problem lies with the Windows GDI+ sub-system not being able to load the JPEG file. GDI+ is what DisplayFusion (and all .NET applications) rely on to do image processing. However, it appears that this GDI+ bug has been fixed in Windows and it works just fine with DisplayFusion in Windows 7. I know that's probably not great news, but at least you know there is some hope. :)
