In DisplayFusion 3.4, we've resolved an issue where the DisplayFusion monitor IDs were different from the monitor IDs shown by Windows on some machines.

As a result of this fix, your monitor IDs in DisplayFusion may change after installing 3.4, causing any Taskbar settings and Window Location rules for that monitor to be lost. Fear not! They can be recovered :)

To recover these settings, you'll need to modify some registry keys. Please note that modifying the registry could cause issues on your system if done incorrectly, so please follow the steps below at your own risk. If you're unsure about what to change, feel free to contact us and we'd be glad to help you out.

Taskbar Settings Recovery:
  • Open regedit (Start > Run > regedit).
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars and expand it. You should see numbered sub-keys under the Taskbars key.
  • Rename the numbered key for the affected monitor to the correct number that now shows up in the DisplayFusion Monitor Configuration window.

Taskbar Settings Recovery Example:

IMPORTANT: The IDs used in the example below are just an example and may not be the same as the IDs on your system.

Before DisplayFusion 3.4, your monitor IDs were detected as 1 and 3, so the registry keys look like this:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars\1
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars\3

Now, in 3.4, your monitor IDs are detected as 1 and 2 (formerly 3), rename the registry keys so that they look like this:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars\1
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars\2

See the attached screenshot ("Taskbars.jpg") for a visual.

Window Location Settings Recovery:
  • Open the DisplayFusion Settings.
  • Navigate to the Window Location tab.
  • Edit the rules for any affected monitors to select the new ID of the correct monitor.

Window Location Settings Recovery Example:

IMPORTANT: The IDs used in the example below are just an example and may not be the same as the IDs on your system.

Before DisplayFusion 3.4, your monitor IDs were detected as 1 and 3, but now they're detected as 1 and 2. Edit any Window Location rules that are listed for Monitor 3, picking Monitor 2 in the Window Location rule Edit window.
