I have some custom functions with associated shortcuts which move the active window to a nominated display (e.g. move active window to display #3). They work perfectly except for an issue I see with a specific application: Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager.

Starting with RDM maximised on my primary display I'm seeing the following behaviour:
  • On entering the shortcut to move to another display, the window will very briefly move to the target display (a fraction of a second, short enough that it won't have finished drawing), and then immediately return to the original display. The same will occur on any subsequent attempts.
  • On restoring the window, the window will appear on the desired display with dimensions set to occupy the full display viewport. The window appears to be in a somewhat confused state at this point. For example, opening a menu in the titlebar will result in the menu button being highlighted, but the menu not appearing.
  • On maximising the window, it will return to the primary display.
  • Above sequence of steps can be performed again with same results.

There's I think some tie-in to the display topology/resolution/scaling. In my typical setup I have the following configuration:
  • Primary display (3840x2160 & 200% scaling)
  • 3rd display directly above primary display (3840x2160 & 200% scaling)
  • 2nd display to the right and vertically centered between primary & 3rd display (1920x1200 & 100% scaling)

If I first move RDM to the 2nd display and then the 3rd display, it works as expected. This isn't a big issue but it is annoying.

Tested on DisplayFusion v9.7.1 and v9.7.2b5 with RDM v2020.3.23.0 x64.

Hello,

Could you send me over a debug log for the issues you mentioned? Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue(s) and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Hi Owen,

Requested file attached. I attempted to move the RDM window to the other display per my original description three times, around a second each apart, starting at ~9:06PM AEDT. Let me know if I can provide any other information to assist. Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for sending those over. We've made some window movement improvements in our latest beta. Can you try updating and see if the issue persists? Here's the link: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Thanks!

Just tested on v9.7.2 Beta 6 but issue remains I'm afraid. Let me know if there's any further data I can provide to assist with isolating what's going on.

Hello,

Interesting, could you send me over a backup of your settings? You can grab them in the Options tab of Display Fusion, using the "Export Settings" button.

If you could also send over a video of the issue happening, that would be very helpful.

Thanks!

No problem, I've attached the requested settings export. The video I may not be able to get to until the weekend.

Hi Owen,

I've also attached a short video from my smartphone showing the issue. The few capture tools I tried either didn't work well with capturing multiple displays simultaneously, or didn't reliably capture the issue.

In the video you can see me attempt to move the RDM window from display #1 to display #3 by pressing the key combination for my "Move window to monitor #3" function. I attempt the move three times in succession.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for sending that video over. If you head into the DisplayFusion advanced settings window, and you enable "Disable Window Moving Fallback Retry" in the Window Management section, does that help?

Thanks!

No change I'm afraid. I tried restarting DisplayFusion too after changing the setting just-in-case.

Hello,

Thanks for testing that. It looks like we were able to reproduce the issue on our end, so we've added this to our list to fix up. We've noted down your contact information, so we'll be sure to let you know if we have any news on it in the future.

Thanks!

Thanks Owen, that's great. It's not a big issue, but everything else in DisplayFusion works beautifully, so I keep noticing it as the one rough edge!

Just a quick note that I also just witnessed the same behaviour with a fullscreen PuTTY window, so whatever's going on isn't specific to the RDM application.

Just noting the issue is still present in the recently released v9.8.

Just wondering if there's been any movement on this issue? It's a bit of a bugbear for me as it breaks various functionality from working on affected windows. I have no idea how difficult it is to fix though, so appreciate this may just not make the cut for the foreseeable future.

Hello,

We haven't got a chance to look into this, but we have it on our list to look into for v10. I've bumped it up to see if we can add it in for our next beta.

Thanks!
