So, some basic quick information.

Windows 10
Displayfusion Version used: Was on the latest stable, switch now to latest beta (8.0 Beta 5). This happens on any version so far.
GPU: GTX 960OC
I use 4 monitors.
Both DVI ports used, as well as the HDMI and one of the Display Ports.
The HDMI goes into an AV unit, which does not send a signal when the unit is off. Windows does not see any connected devices on that port in this case.
The DP is connected to a 1080P Monitor and the DVI's go to a couple of 1440x900 displays.

Now, there was no need to switch Monitor profiles before I got the AV unit sorted, I am unsure if there were any symptoms beforehand.

Problem:

Displayfusion keeps screwing around/up monitor profiles. What it's meant to do is if the AV unit is turned on, it'll switch that monitor to the main display and turn the others off (by default, I have a 4 display profile I can use as well). What I get instead is ALL monitors flickering on and off. Sometimes it'll correct itself after 30 odd seconds, other times I'll have to unplug a display for it to come right. During really bad cases, I have to unplug all monitors!

Another issue in the same line is sometimes when I come back to the computer after a while (seems to only occur after 3-4 hours at least) Displayfusion will be doing the same thing with no monitor changes.

Steps taken to resolve:
I'm at a loss. As far as I can tell, Windows is not play with the monitors in the background. Once they are detected, they stay there.
Knowing that there are still some Windows 10 compatibility issues for Displayfusion I switched to the Beta. I can now snap programs to the taskbar now( Thank you!), but this issue is still here.

I'd be grateful if someone could look into this, It's almost hit a stage where I'll need to look at disabling the monitor profile system.
I've attached a copy of the troubleshooting log that Displayfusion makes for the mods.

Does the flickering start after turning the AV unit on, but without manually loading a Monitor Profile in DF?

Yes, when the computer sees the device connect and DF tries to automatically change the profile. Once it has started flickering, You can't manually change the profile until it has stopped.

To oddball part is how it sometimes does this while the av unit is off, after the screens go to sleep as below.

I've noticed that it seems this becomes possible after the monitors go to sleep for any period of time.

Ok, that's really strange! DisplayFusion doesn't have any code for automatically loading Monitor Profiles, so it shouldn't be affecting the monitors at all when you switch that unit off/on. If you exit DisplayFusion before switching the unit off/on, does it not flicker any more?

Looks like some code snuck in then.

There was no issues with display fusion off. If fact it doesn't reappear after I turn DF back on.

Strange! If it happens again, can you check if simply restarting DisplayFusion resolves it again?

Certainly.

I'll do some testing on it in the weekend.

I have a similar issue related to flicker and 4 monitors.

Win10
DF 8.0 [from steam]
GTX970
3 monitors on one desk and the fourth on another.

I have profiles setup as such:

1. "triple" - uses the 3 monitors, disables the 4th. All triples are rotates in portrait (flipped).
2. "single" - uses the single monitor on the other desk, disables the 3 others.

When I switch to single, it works great. If I then switch back to triple, the single goes to sleep as expected but the 3 wig out. Two of them don't come on and the middle on is black but I can see the cursor and the windows "loading" spinner. The cursor+icon are moveable but they flicker, similar to a "resolution change" flicker....about every 1 seconds.

I can use hot keys or the remote app to switch back to the single monitor ok, but cannot flip to the triple monitor setup.

I've deleted and re-setup the profiles with the same result.

At this point if I switch back to the single monitor profile using hotkeys and then unplug the single monitor, the triple monitors come alive and are setup as expected.

I've attached a log file of me trying to switch from the single to the triple using hotkeys while all 4 monitors are attached. You will notice that I have made triple monitor profile for when only 3 are attached.

Any toughts or ideas?

@Eric: Thanks for the troubleshooting info! Could you also send a debug log? Here are the steps:
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

ok - I repeated...it was 1:12am on the windows clock.

Same thing happened, logs are attached.

Here are the steps I took:

1. physically plugged in my 4th monitor (3 in the basement went to sleep and upstairs came alive).
2. used the hot-key (a;t-ctrl-win-downarrow) to load the "Basement Triple (3/4)" profile. This disables the upstairs when all 4 are attached. Upstairs went to sleep and basement middle monitor was showing the cursor and the other two did not work.
3. Tried to use the hotkey to switch back to the "Upstairs Single (1/4)" profile and all monitors in basement went to sleep. Upstairs did not come alive.
4. Tried to enable the basement profile again buy nothing happened.
5. Rebooted using power button.
6. Sent you the logs.

If it helps at all, prior to purchasing and installing DisplayFusion I was able to switch between using the basement monitors and the upstairs monitor simply by physically plugging in or unplugging the 4th monitor. Windows seemed to remember my configuration values: when I plug in the 4th, the basement 3 go to sleep and the upstairs works; when I unplug the upstairs the basement 3 come alive.

I bought the software so I could avoid going to the basement to physically plug/unplug the upstairs monitor. ;) Hopefully you can help me figure this out.

Thanks

Thanks! Could you do another test for me?

Could you make the Upstairs profile include one of the basement monitors? I'm wondering if the issue is related to switching to a profile that disables all current monitors.

OK - so I did what you asked and added a basement monitor to the upstairs profile and then used the hotkeys to switch to the upstairs and back to basement. No luck on the first attempt (same result as before with monitors in the basement flickering with a black screen and only the cursor visible).

After a reboot (necessary to get the monitors working again) I tried a second time and it worked (mostly - the icons were arranged differently! and the main monitor was set to the basement right-most instead of the center).

I've attached the full log of this action as "DisplayFusion.test1.full.log.zip" (6mb uncompressed).

I then looked closely at the setup and realized that the upstairs profile has a wallpaper profile attached to it. I decided to remove the wallpaper profile and reconfigure so that it was only activating the upstairs monitor as before. The profile seems to switch OK between the upstairs single and the basement triple.

I've attached the full log of this switching as well.

I'll keep testing as I'm not satisfied it's totally resolved. I do want to be able to set wallpaper profiles on the different setups!

I'll do some more tests tomorrow as it's late currently.

Sorry for the delay on this! I'm going to need to reproduce this issue here in order for us to be able to fix it up. I've got a test machine that I'm going to test a bunch of different configurations with, so we'll see what I can come up with. I will post an update when I do have more news.

Thanks!

ok, sounds good. It works now about 75% of the time without the wallpaper profile associated.

I also have flickering issues with 4 monitors. It happens when switching from a profile with just a TV, to a profile with 3 pc monitors + the TV. Switching back to just TV nullifies the problem.

When I switch using keyboard shortcuts and the icon tray context menu, the problem occurs, but not when I go into "Create/Edit Monitor Profiles" and switch profiles.

@vgr: Interesting!

@Eric: Does it make any difference if you switch profiles with the tray icon/hotkeys vs. through the Monitor Configuration window?

I ended up resolving the issue. Turns out it was a faulty display adapter.

@keith - I'll test as soon as I can

@ryonez - how did you determine it was a faulty video card? Just replace the card? Did you get the same make and model if so? My card isn't showing any signs of issues.
