I'd like to report another small bug, and I thought I should open two separate topics.

This is a small misfunctionality that makes it difficult to update DF. It's just that when I click "Download and install" button it downloads the file and then an error appears, because app doesn't have permission to run the updater. Then DF is closed.

After this problem I just launch DF with administrator permissions and the update procedure goes well.

My computer details:
- Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (upgraded from Windows 8 ) - It seems that there are some differences between 8.1 fresh install and upgraded...
- DisplayFusion PRO 5.1.1 beta 6 (having problem since 5.1.1 stable)

I think this is kind of important for begginers to be solved.

Thanks for posting in separate topics, that's definitely the preferred way to do it :)

Do you normally run as a standard (non-administrator) user account? If so, do you also have UAC disabled?

Hello,

I only have one account in the computer, and it's administrator. I think DF is being launched with user (non-admin) privileges. UAC is enabled (see screenshot).

Could you attach a copy of the DebugInfo.html file from DisplayFusion? You can find it by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab.

Thanks!

Everything looks ok in the Troubleshooting info. DisplayFusion is running with the correct permissions. The next time there's an update, could you do the following?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Try to do the auto-update (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm sorry, but DF is currently updated to the last beta version so when I look for updates none are found. I'll report it to you when next (beta) version is released.

Regards!

Sounds good, if you like, here's the link for Beta 5, which you can install, and then you should get the update notification for Beta 6 :)

Hi, I just uninstalled DF from my computer.

The first error comes when launching installer. I just double-clicked the installer and attachment 1 window appears immediately. The translation is: "It wasn't possible to execute the file in the temp directory. Installation interrupted. Error 5: Access denied". (I think this error may give you the key to solve this.

I tried to do the same with the antivirus disabled (Kaspersky Pure 3.0) and exactly the same happens.

Then I right-clicked and executed the file as admin, accepted uac permissions and installation went ok. To reproduce the exact behaviour I restarted the pc. After full system load, I tried to update at 21:27, with log enabled, same error happens as in attachment 1. Log is attached.

Thanks!

Ok, interesting. So when you just double-clicked the installer, you never received a UAC prompt before the Access Denied message?

Exact! That's true, I never received that notification. I tested on a laptop with windows 8.1 pro 64 fresh install and UAC request was received... What a strange thing!

I also have this problem with other apps... Some ask for permission and for some others I must force the uac request...

I just found another app that has the same error for me (GIMP for Windows 2.8.8), I think it is due to the software you use for installation.

I hope this helps :)

Ok, interesting! We use InnoSetup. I'll have to look into what GIMP for Windows uses :)

Quick follow-up on this. Are you running Windows 8.1 Pro, or Enterprise?

Sorry for the late response... I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64.

Don't look any further at this issue. It was caused by some other program that messed up with UAC. I formatted the pc and everything worked ok, but then I installed iTunes and CCLeaner and bug came out again. Don't know which of them is killing UAC, but with none of them installed my pc and DF updates work amazing!

Thanks for everything,
Gabriel
