A bit of background first.

I raid lead on world of warcraft. Having my accessory monitor... accessible... is paramount. This has lead me to play in windowed mode up until now. The reason this is an issue is because of my hardware. Let me explain.

My gaming PC has 4 monitors. 3 Which are hooked up via NVSurround running at resolution of 4680x2560 and an accessory display set up which is 1920x1200. This is all powered with 4 titans in quad-sli configuration. In order for SLI to function you have to game in full screen. This allows me 2 options, one is to crank up all the goods and play full screen.. this leaves me with my accessory monitor being nothing more than a digital picture frame on the side of my desk. Option two is to game windowed which affords me my 2nd (4th) display, but disables SLI which cuts my horsepower to such a degree that I have to play at the lowest settings, and even then my framerate is less than it is on maximum settings in full screen with SLI.

So, long story short. Here I am. Excited doesnt cover it. Unfortunately ive now spent a good 6+ hours today trying to make this function. Ive tried two different versions and im out of ideas.

This is on windows 8.1 x64 by the way.

Here is what happens. I start the game and listen for the woosh that never comes if i use the location rule. If i turn to the hotkey instead, I start the game and press the hotkey, HUZZAH wooosh sound! BUT it still doesnt work. The mouse is still stuck within the game area and unable to go outside.

Ive tried AMM in the past and while it allows the mouse to go outside, the minute something outside takes focus by clicking, it minimizes the game anyhow and all the delayed blackscreen flickery goodness that comes with it.

SO.. I'd really like to get this working. Let me know what you need and what I can do to help. Sigh. Exhausting!

Unfortunately I don't have WoW here to test with :(

Some games don't react properly to the Prevent Deactivation function. I'm surprised that the Window Location rule doesn't make any sound for you though. Could you set that rule up again, and then send me a debug log after testing it out? Here are the steps for the debug log:
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Launch WoW and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

hi keith, sorry for the delay in reply. I just had my first baby and let me just tell you...exhausted and hands full are two adjectives/verbs i would use to accurately describe the past month.

Anyhow, now that im back on some sort of schedule and returning to wow... im fully committed to getting this sorted.

I will make an attempt to get this working again via location rule and get you a debug log immediately.

While im here, can you answer a question for me though.

Do other mmorpgs you know of (wildstar, ffxiv, sota, etc) work with surround just fine? Im trying to figure out if the problem im experiencing is related to wow or related to the configuration im using.

I assume based on the nature of the software itself, most games work with surround/sli, but being that im new to these types (limited options) of software... i figured id ask.

Due to the accessory monitor this super expensive pc i built has been all but useless. Sort of like running a funny car with 87 octane if you will. Having 4 gpu's and playing in windowed is just a miserable experience. If i run SLI i get all that Horsepower but then I lose my accessory display. Quite the conundrum.

Anyhow, before i keep you any l onger - ill get you a debug log (assuming i can find it/figure it out, asap. I didnt notice any errors popping up or anything but we shall see what happens)

thank you thank you thank you!

No worries, congrats on your new baby!!

To be totally honest, none of us in the office play any MMORPGs (weird, right?), so I can't give you a good answer on that :(

Definately weird! :P

Anyhow, I did try FFXIV and it seems to be working. So the problem is isolated with World of Warcraft. At the risk of sounding like a broken record.. it would be amazing if this could get rectified. I cant tell you how many people this would help/please etc :P

Imagine having 4 gpu's and being stuck using 1 since you built the pc. A pc capable of maxing everything out at 4k resolution and having to play on the lowest settings.

its miserable.

when i found this i thought my prayers were answered. Of course then it doesnt work in the ONE game i spend 99% of my time playing. (fortunately its a popular game which should help my cause!)

I lied. Must have been a residual service running from actual tools or something. Removed everything and installed your newest beta and no dice with ffxiv either. I reckon you have an issue with multi monitor gaming/surround as ironic as that is :P. Or maybe it has to do with it being multiple gpus.

Either way I'd love to do anything I can to help get it fixed. Multi gpu and monitor gaming is becoming more and more popular and less and less niche each passing day.

Another customer found an interesting workaround that's worked in the few games that we've tried it with. Would you be able to try this out?
  • Setup the Window Location rule for WoW to run Prevent Window Deactivation
  • Open WoW and set it up for windowed mode, then exit WoW
  • Open WoW again, then switch it to full screen
  • Are you able to Alt+Tab out now without it minimizing?

You know what's odd... I've actually noticed one-off instances where it would just seem to work. It would soon stop and I figured I was going crazy.

Now that you mention that, perhaps I did the aforementioned without intending to/while mucking around. It's not an ideal means but if it works until a real solution is in place, I won't complain :P

I'll try it in ffxiv as well.

I wish I had done more research before building this beast of a pc because the majority of the time I'm stuck either running windowed and turning the graphics way down due to no SLI (but having my acc display) or going full screen and getting awesome graphics/framerate but losing out on acc display :P

Do know that when you guys get this functioning properly I'll be a lifelong customer and I'll be spreading and singing about it to all four corners considering the number of people who don't even know a solution like this exists. I don't see myself ever going back to single display. My next rig will be tri-4k displays but I'll be waiting for the next gen nvidia chips considering how crippling that will be.

4680x2560 (4.75k) already puts a whoopin on 4 Titans in many new games.

Anyways, will post back with my results asap. Once again I appreciate the reply!
