With a monitor split, I have "lost" some desktop space. What I mean is, I can't place icons in what appears to be some sort of buffer along the right side. I have no padding set, just a split. Is this a bug or have I turned something on by accident?

Monitor splits shouldn't be affecting this at all, it's likely the taskbar being on the side that's doing it. When the taskbar is created, Windows adjusts the desktop work area, which causes the desktop icon grid to also adjust.
