Re: DisplayFusion 7.3 Beta 2
Windows 8.1 Pro MC
Classic Shell Start Menu 4.2.4

Thanks for getting the Start button back onto the Taskbar in this beta. The attached pic will show that it is, however, positioned rather lower — by about 1.5 / 2 inches — than in the past.

Nonetheless, Start is fully operational and that is a blessing.

Good wishes ~ Hans-Peter

No worries! I can't seem to reproduce that here though. If you switch to the Classic Shell "Aero" Start button, instead of your custom one, does that make any difference?

Keith: the 'Aero' button appears disproportionately large and also way too low on the vertical axis. Pic attached. Also attached the custom button file I normally use.

Many thanks for looking into this problem!

Thanks! I can reproduce the large button issue, but it's at the correct position on the taskbar for me. I can't figure out why there's such a large gap after the clock in your screenshot as well, but I'm guessing they're related :)

Can you attach your troubleshooting info?
  • Open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the Copy to Clipboard button
  • Open Notepad, paste the text, and save the file
  • Reply with the text file attached

For what it's worth, Keith, the problem persists in Beta 4.

Windows 8.1 Pro MCE x64
Classic Shell / Classic Menu 4.2.4

Best wishes!

Quick question, if you open up the DF settings window on that monitor, do the fonts in the settings look bigger than normal?

Also, can you attach screenshots of both your Windows and DF taskbars for comparison?

Keith: Pics of the two Taskbars are attached. The DF Settings window's fonts appear normally — correctly proportioned — when Settings is opened on my Secondary Display, 1200 x 1920 Portrait mode. The Secondary Display [Monitor 2], on which the Start button displays way too low, always is in Portrait mode. Perhaps this is important.

Every good wish ~ Hans-Peter

Thanks! Could you send me another screenshot of the DF taskbar from 7.2 if possible?

Never mind, I believe we've gotten this sorted out now. We're hoping to post 7.3 tomorrow, but if you don't mind, could you give it a try when you have a chance? I've posted it here temporarily: https://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-7.3.exe

P E R F E C T O ! !

Ha, while I have your attention Keith: have you ever tested DisplayFusion for compatibility with Aero Glass by 'bigmuscle'?

http://www.glass8.eu/download.html

It worked handsomely on Windows 8.1 and now is an aesthetic life-saver on my Ultrabook with Windows 10. However, it was unstable on my Desktop '8.1' systems with dual monitors. Eventually, after he answered my Forum questions, I concluded the unnamed application in his analysis was my DisplayFusion:

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163725-aero-glass-for-win8-13/?p=1080528

HAVE NOT tried Aero Glass on my Desktop systems because they are not yet upgraded to '10'. But how lovely it would be have Glass in '10' there, too . . .

Anyway, thank you so much for running down the weirdness with sinking Classic Menu START button on DF Taskbar.

Every good wish ~ Hans-Peter

Awesome, glad to hear it! I'll have to give that Aero Glass utility a test when I have some time and see what we can find out :)
