Screensavers are an invention for CRT monitors and are useless in the LED age. At least according to Microsoft. As of update 1709 when they began removing screen savers from Themes, "Lock screen features and policies are preferred."

They want us to go from work to a lock screen, nothing in-between. It's so dreary! I want something nice to come back to, and so has every worker since the first toaster sprouted wings.

I've collected ~100k scans of art from museums over the years and truly love my screensaver, it's a window to the world's culture I can experience every day.

In 2025, Displayfusion is the only multi-monitor screensaver software that I know about which can display my collection sufficiently on all monitors. Please keep preserving and enhancing this part of the software! I'd pay again for maintenance on it :)

I'm not going to discuss competing software here, but there's still enough options for screensavers as long as Microsoft does not kill the feature entirely. (it still exists as a classic Control Panel applet)

Do you have any actual evidence that Microsoft will remove the feature by killing the .cpl file with no Settings replacement?

Regardless, screensavers are just executable files that close when you give mouse/KB input. Anything that can detect idle-time(such as DisplayFusion) could execute a program to act as a screensaver.
