Setup:
HP ZBook laptop connected with their piece of crap Thunderbolt dock to 2 external monitors via DisplayPort. I use the laptop display to give a 3 monitor layout. One of the external monitors is set up as the main display.

The main functionality I wanted was to save window positions when all three monitors are active so that I could restore those positions in the following two cases: 1. The HP dock malfunctions and loses track of the connected monitors; 2. I use the laptop away from my desk. Both of these cases results in all windows moving to the laptop monitor which means that I have to hand reposition my windows every time I reconnect to the 3 monitor setup.

What I found with DisplayFusion is that the "Load saved window positions" functionality worked perhaps 25% of the time and was definitely unreliable.

A second annoyance is the taskbar replacement does not implement the windows key + typing to invoke search functionality. I found the taskbar replacement to be subpar and while I loved having the system tray on every taskbar it was not worth the downsides of the implementation.

I hope this helps.

For the Start menu search thing, did the search open on the Primary monitor when you started typing, or not at all?

For the save/restore positions issue, could you send me a debug log?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!
