On assigning tasks to a monitor's taskbar, we have the option to force the task to open on the same monitor. It would be great to have another selectable option to force all subsequent windows for that task to open on the same monitor as well.

I don't get it. This is windows' default behavior. I either want the application to launch from the respective monitor's taskbar or I want default behavior. How does adding this suggestion provide a third option?

The attached video illustrates what I am referring to. The SAS scan icon is in the 2nd monitor taskbar. On activating, the scan window opens on the 2nd monitor. However, the update window opens on the primary monitor. (I have SAS settings that requires SAS to update its definitions prior to starting the scan.

If I put SAS in Windows Location to open on the 2nd monitor and specify that all windows of SAS to open on that monitor, they do so.

Are you saying that once an app has been launched from the non-native monitor's taskbar and launched onto the non-native monitor then you would like for the same application to then open to the non-native monitor even if launched from the native taskbar?

As far as I know the subsequent launches from the non-native taskbar will continue to open on the non-native monitor.

I'm only asking for clarity, I have no insights other than I recall one of the developers stating they cannot really override the native taskbar's behaviors at some point.

No, I am saying that if the application is launched from an icon in the DisplayFusion taskbar on a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc., monitor, then it would be great if all subsequent windows for the task be displayed on the same monitor.

Gotcha, you mean what I call "child windows".

e.g. MS Outlook new message window that pops up on a separate monitor than the one the main application window is open on.

THAT would be nice. Currently the behavior is Windows' default of opening them on the monitor the application itself was last closed on.

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed response! We've got an open feature request for an option to force all child windows to open on the same monitor that the parent window is currently on.

@siliconman: Would that work in your case? If so, I'll add your vote to that request. If not, I'll enter your request as a new one.

Thanks!

The open request will work for me. Thanks for the +1.

We've just released DisplayFusion 5.1 Beta 6 (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/), and there's now an option on the Settings > Window Management tab to automatically move child windows to the parent window :)

Thanks!
