Hello,

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro x64, DisplayFusion Pro v9.7

Problem: Application set to start with Windows but sometimes stops working on system startup since the 9.7 update

The usual windows pop-up, with these details:

Code

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name: BEX64
  Application Name: DisplayFusion.exe
  Application Version: 9.7.0.0
  Application Timestamp: 5ef33ffe
  Fault Module Name: wbemprox.dll
  Fault Module Version: 6.3.9600.17415
  Fault Module Timestamp: 545040bd
  Exception Offset: 00000000000023f0
  Exception Code: c0000005
  Exception Data: 0000000000000008
  OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.256.48
  Locale ID: 1033

Launching it again sometimes works, sometime doesn't. Killing the service then launching it again solves it.

Problem did not ever happen in 9.6
Problem persists after a complete reinstall (wiped settings and cache files)

Windows is up-to-date, and freshly booted. But problem seems to happen if I start clicking and launching programs straight away as I enter desktop.

More system specs and log attached (protected).

Thanks for your help!

That's a strange one! I don't see anything suspicious in the debug logs. Could you try updating to 9.7 Beta 3 and let me know if this still happens?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your help :)

- Problem persists on 9.7beta3

- The reason the log looks normal is that every time the crashes happen on startup nothing gets written in the log (the last entry timestamp is from the last time the program managed to run fine), this is with log verbose set to "detailed"

- My previous statement :
But problem seems to happen if I start clicking and launching programs straight away as I enter desktop.
is not true. The same problem happened with absolutely no user input (hands off mouse and keyboard)

- Might be related to my OS, startup program order or even deferred loading. But I'd like to make sure DF is not the cause. Is there any way to rollback to 9.6 and see if the problem persists?

Thanks for your time!

I've had no crashes on version 9.6.1 in two days and many boots, an impressive streak considering 9.7 was crashing on average 50% of the time upon startup.
So I'm enclined to say that something in 9.7 is messing with my configuration.

I will be away for a week but hope that I have provided enough information in the prior posts. I've also added the lists of startup programs and services as attachment.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, thanks for confirming! This may sound crazy, but it could be the crash reporting module that's actually crashing here. When you're back, could you try updating to the latest 9.7 Beta again, then enable this advanced setting and restart?

General: Disable Crash Reporting and Telemetry

Thanks!

I had a crash the moment I booted my computer after coming back, but then I unchecked the option you mentioned and it's been crash-free since 4 days, a remarkable streak. It would seem you were right.

Worth noting that I installed DF9.7 on a laptop also running windows 8.1 just to compare and had no crash in over a week. (I never had a second monitor plugged in however)

Hope this helps. As for my own case, I'm fine with running this with the crash reporting off.

That's great to hear! We're keeping track of this issue, so if you're happy with crash reporting disabled, then we're happy as well! If we are ever able to reproduce this here and get it fixed up, we'll be sure to let you know :)

Thanks!
