Another problem I've noticed on occasion (maybe happens every few days or so on average) is that sometimes the collapsed application icons stop working on the displayfusion taskbars. If you go to the Windows native taskbar and click on a collapsed application icon it brings up the popup with the row of different application windows that are opened so you can choose which window to restore to the desktop/bring to foreground. When you click on an icon on the displayfusion taskbar, it doesn't do anything. Closing and reopening displayfusion does fix the problem temporarily.

I am running displayfusion on Windows 10 Pro (Build 10.0.10586)

Would you be able to enable debug logging, and send us a log the next time this happens? Here are the steps:
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Yes, sure. Not sure when the behavior will crop up, but I will run logging until it happens.

Ok, for now, can you just attach the troubleshooting info? (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\DebugInfo.html)

Thanks!

I've also had this issue ever since Windows 10 came out. I probably experience this at least once a day and it corrects itself if left alone for fifteen minutes or so, but it's pretty frustrating since I can't alt+tab between programs on the secondary monitor.

Thanks guys! On the Settings > Options tab, can you see if the "Aero Colour Settings" option is enabled? If it is, can you try disabling it to see if that resolves this issue?

Mine was already set to "Don't Change the Aero color"

I turned that off. But I know the behavior occurred before when it used to be off anyways.

Ok, can you guys also make sure that "Automatically pick an accent colour from my background" is disabled in the Windows Settings > Personalization > Colours section?

Thanks!

That option is off as well.

Ok, thanks. Have you had the taskbar issue since disabling the Aero Colour option in DisplayFusion?

The option has always been off for me and I've had the issue since installing Windows 10

It actually hasn't occurred since my first post. Kind of weird since it was occurring before with enough regularity to be annoying. Guess it wanted to annoy me by not happening after I reported the issue. :) Or perhaps it was replaced by that other jump list issue I reported.

@TheSteward: Can you attach a copy of your troubleshooting info?
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)
  • Reply with the file attached

Okay, the past couple of days the behavior occurred again. I'll attach that file again.

Thanks guys! When you click the button on the taskbar, do the window previews open and then immediately disappear again? Or do they just never open?

The preview never opens when it's having this issue. When I see the previews opening again then it works fine

Yeah, same here. Preview doesn't open at all when the issue occurs.

I first noticed that the issue was in progress at 8:39 am CST (though it had probably been going on) and it had resolved by 8:40 am.

Another behavior I've noticed when this is happening is that when I use a full screen program like Remote Desktop the DisplayFusion taskbar stays in front instead of going behind the program. When the issue stops then it allows the full screen program into the forefront.

Thanks! It looks like the hook processes aren't running for some reason. When this happens, if you open the Windows Task Manager > Details tab, are the DisplayFusionHookApp processes running?

From the log, it almost looks like the DisplayFusion taskbar is hung, but that could be a symptom of another system-related issue. When this happens, does the Start button, clock, and system tray on the DF taskbar work, or are they not doing anything either?

I'm pretty sure they all still work, I know if you have only a single instance of an application open on the DisplayFusion task bar you can bring it up just fine by clicking on it, you just don't get the preview and therefore can't select between multiple instances. The start menu also still works

Ok, could you send an L2 log for this? The L1 log doesn't seem to have enough info.
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L2: Log Detailed"

Thanks!
