This issue started yesterday after I updated DisplayFusion to 11.0. Prior to this the PC would wake up on the same monitor that was last in use when it was last put to sleep. Now it always reverts to the other monitor.

Is there a new setting I'm supposed to change to allow it to remember last monitor used? One monitor is connected via HDMI (the one is always wakes up on), and the other DisplayPort, but this was never a problem with the previous version and Displayfusion would always resume the session on the monitor that was last used.

Hoping there's a solution. The update came with so many nice additions but this inconvenience is almost enough to make me want to look at downgrading (if such a thing is even possible).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

DisplayFusion shouldn't be having an effect on this, I believe Windows defaults to the primary monitor. If you exit DisplayFusion and put the computer to sleep, does the same thing happen?

Strangely enough the other one is the primary monitor (DisplayFusion regards the one it keeps insisting on waking up to as Monitor 2, and Windows will display the bios on the other monitor so I guess it regards it as monitor 2 as well).

I downgraded back to the previous version of DisplayFusion to double check and it still worked as intended on that version.

In other words:

Using Monitor A > sleep > wake up to monitor A with all settings intact.

I then upgraded back to the newer version hoping it would work this time but I still end up with the same issue:

Using Monitor A > sleep > wake up to monitor B (with monitor A's wallpaper settings applied to it).

Am I the only one to report this?

My current monitor setup is as follows:

2560x1440 monitor connected via hdmi (PC seems to view this as monitor 2)
1600x1200 monitor connected via displayport (recognized as monitor 1)

DisplayFusion's latest version always reverts to the 2560x1440 monitor on wakeup even if the last one used was the other one. Never happened on previous versions (or at least not in many years).

If this bug cannot be reproduced by anyone else and isn't being reported maybe it's just me, and maybe I should just stick to the older version then?

Does the monitor change based on whether DisplayFusion is running when the computer goes to sleep?

I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand. Are you asking me to try quitting DisplayFusion before putting it to sleep?

When waking up the PC I can see DisplayFusion in the tray and can change profiles but even selecting the profile the monitor is aready on doesn't fix the incorrect wallpaper settings. I see the 1600x1200 size monitor wallpaper on my 2560x1440 which results in a smaller wallpaper that repeats around the sides. The only fix I've found is either reapplying the wallpaper or swapping profiles to another and back to this monitor.

The combination of these two issues (insistence on waking up on one particular monitor, and messing up the wallpaper) is rather aggravating.

I'm not sure if this matters or not but I did forget to point out that the 2560x1200 monitor is using 120hz. I'll try switching to 60hz to match the other display and will report back on whether that makes a difference.

Ok so that made no difference, but now I have found the issue extends further than I thought.

When I use the monitor that it always reverts to (I'll call it monitor 2) and put the computer to sleep while the other monitor (monitor 1) is on standby instead of fully powered off with the button press, waking up the computer messess up the wallpaper on the monitor 2 by applying the settings of monitor 1 to it.

I guess I have no choice but to revert back to the older version of DisplayFusion.

Is there anything else you'd like to test before doing so? I'll wait to hear back from you in case there's anything else you'd like me to try.

Additionally I find that even when having both monitors powered on, the act of simply switching profiles to that monitor 2 (25600x1440 monitor) from the monitor 1 (1600x1200) transfers the latters wallpaper settings to the former, resulting in a messed up wallpaper display (a smaller wallpaper repeating around the sides) on monitor 2.

Basically this new update has unfortunately broken too much out of DisplayFusion for my uses. I'll wait till tomorrow just in case there's anything else I'm advised to try out, but the issues are becoming too much of a nuisance to bear with. Everything worked fine on the previous version.

It sounds like the ID's are swapping after it's been put to sleep. Can you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info before it goes to sleep, and another after it's woken and the issue happens? Here are the steps:

  • Open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Hello, Just wanted to add that this is also happening on Windows 11. I would sleep/shut down my computer with Monitor A and Monitor B enabled/TV disabled. When woken up/turned on, TV and Monitor A be enabled/Monitor B disabled.

We have some changes coming that might fix this up, we'll let you know when we have a new version to test out.

Thanks!

Thank you Spanol.

Sorry for the late reply. I had already downgraded again and was going to upgrade again to provide the log file requested, but Spanol beat me to it.

Will be happy to try testing the new version when it comes out.

Some good news, came back to report that the new version fixes the following two issues:

- waking up restores the monitor last used with proper wallpaper settings as it used to

- switching between monitors adjusts the profile to the proper wallpaper of said monitor, like before

However unfortunately one issue remains unfixed:

- after waking up switching monitors results in broken wallpaper on the other monitor (in my case going from monitor 1 to 2 leaves monitor 1 with smaller wallpaper of monitor 1 repeating around the edges

EDIT: Sorry forgot to provide the log file. Will reboot to recreate the problem and will provide a file shortly.

Here's the file.

When trying to replicate the issue I did the following:

-restarted pc

-activated the profile change to go from monitor 2 to 1

-put the pc to sleep

-woke up pc to change monitor back to 2 and all went to hell (monitor 1 stayed on but changed resolution to some very low res (maybe 640x480?) and monitor 2 had broken wallpaper and visual issues on the taskbar

I repeated the same step that previously only had the monitor 2 not recover proper wallpaper settings, but in trying to repeat it things got even buggier.

I had to resort to downgrading back to last year's version on which everything works as intended. Thank you to the team for the hard work, but hoping a fix can be found for these annoying bugs as it renders the experience unusable for me where the old version worked fine.

Glad to hear there were some improvements. We'll take a look at that log and let you know if we need another other info.

Thanks!

I tried today's update as the change notes sounded promising but sadly wallpaper still doesn't adapt back to centering itself when switching between displays.

It did fix the major bugging I had where one monitor would go into low res when switching to another though so I guess there was progress. I downgraded back but I did save a new debug log in case it would be of interest to the team.
