I use a few of my apps multi-monitor, for example Flash Pro, FlashDevelop, Komodo Edit.

In Flash, file dialogs show up on one monitor, but alert boxes show up spanning both, with half on each screen.

In Komodo, file dialogs show up on one monitor, but alert boxes show up at the edge of one monitor, as if trying to launch between the two, but just being forced onto one monitor.

Is intelligent repositioning something DF should be handling, or should I be sending a support email to the companies in question?

Cheers,
Dave

DisplayFusion doesn't automatically move dialog boxes and child windows, unless you have a Window Location rule setup for that application to force All Windows to a specific monitor/location.

However, we do have an open feature request for dialogs/child windows to be automatically moved to wherever the parent is, so I'll add your vote to that :)

Thanks!

Add a +1 to this please, would LOVE to have dialogs open with their parent.

We've just released DisplayFusion 5.1 Beta 6 (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/), and there's now an option on the Settings > Window Management tab to automatically move child windows to the parent window :)

Thanks!

I have been working with the demo version for a few weeks now, so far so good with one exception. I have noticed that this one app I use, the first window opens properly, then the second popup from this first pop, does not get affected by the setting, it still opens on the wrong monitor.

Which application is it? Is it something we would be able to test here?

I doubt it unfortunately, it is called Alloy Navigator, it is a help desk ticketing system.

Ok, would you be able to do the following? Hopefully the debug log will show us something useful :)
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

Sure, I will give it a try tomorrow.

Also noticed that Java popups do not center with IE, not sure how that works since it may run separate outside of IE.

Sounds good! Unfortunately the Java windows can't be moved as they don't belong to the same process as the main window (Internet Explorer).

Thanks Andrew! Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about this issue at the moment. If the first child window is getting moved, the application is getting hooked properly, but it may be doing something weird with the child's child window.

We'll keep this on our list, and if we're able to fix it up in the future, we'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks!

Also, same issue with Putty. Window does not open on the same window once you open the connection.

Are you referring to the actual session window that opens after you click connect from the main window?

Correct

Ok, I've checked out the properties for that window, and it doesn't have any parent window information, so DisplayFusion doesn't know it's supposed to go where the first window was.

There is a workaround, however. You can create a Window Location rule as shown in the attached screenshot. That will force the new PuTTY window to open on the monitor that has the mouse cursor, which in theory, will be the monitor that the first window was on, because you'll have clicked on the Open button :)

It worked for me in my testing, but please let me know if it doesn't work for you.

Hope that helps!

I guess I could use that same workaround for my other app?

It might work yep! It depends on whether DisplayFusion detects that third window as a new window or not, but it's worth a try :)
