Hi, I found a kind of “breach of security” issue with displayfusion and the Windows 10 anniversary update. I’m not sure if this is more of a Windows 10 issue or displayfusion issue but I’d figure I’d put it here.
Basically in the top left corner of the lock screen in new anniversary update there is a button for Cortana. What you can do is click on that button, and then put your mouse over where the taskbar should be on the second, non-primary display fusion enabled monitor. The taskbar will now appear. This will allow to “hover over” each open application, letting you totally maximize and view the application. Clicking on them will not actually unlock the computer, but the fact that someone can do this and potentially view something that was left open on a locked computer is something worth noting

The attached image shows what I’m talking about. I can hover over the preview and it will show my computer as if it was unlocked.

Just wanted to let you all know and see if you can potentially replicate the issue and maybe put out a fix.

Thanks for the heads up! It's crazy that Windows would even allow applications to be drawn over the lock screen (in Windows 7/8 this wasn't possible). I wasn't able to reproduce this here, but we'll keep testing and see what we can find out.

Do you use a Screen Saver on your machine? If so, does this happen after the screen saver exits? What if you just press Win + L and try the same steps before the screen saver comes on, can you still reproduce this?

One other thing, if you haven't already tried the latest DisplayFusion 8.0 Beta, could you give it a try and see if you still have this issue?

Thanks!

One more thing actually, if you can send over a debug log, that would be great as well! Here are the steps:
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Yeah, seems pretty crazy to me..I don't use a screensaver. When I do cntrl+ L to lock it I'm able to reproduce it and the same thing happens.

I'm running 8.0 beta 10.

I reproduced the issue at 12:43 PM EST today. Attached logs.

Another weird issue I'm now encountering is my lock screen image is totally black. This didn't happen yesterday.

Thanks! We've found the issue! DisplayFusion removes the taskbar when the workstation is locked. BUT, in Windows 10 Anniversary, when you click the Cortana button on the lock screen, Windows reports the desktop as being unlocked for some reason. So, we know what the issue is, and we're working on a fix for the next beta :)

Thanks for your help in tracking this down!

Last month, we released DisplayFusion 8.0, and this issue should be all fixed up. If you still have any trouble with 8.0, please let us know!

Thanks!

Hi, it looks like this issue is cropping up again after installing the creators update. I was looking at my lock screen when all of a sudden the displayfusion taskbar popped up on my secondary monitor. I was able to hover over the icons and "peek" into my desktop as I was before. Cortana was disabled on the lockscreen as well.

Just curious if this issue had been reported to Microsoft, since this most definitely is not a DF issue.

Clear example of a backdoor.

DF acting as a rootkit. Bad Microsoft, bad. lol.

Haha yeah, we reported it to Microsoft, but never heard anything back. Any application can force a window to the top of the lock screen, which is really strange.

I can't reproduce this on the Creators Update though. Are there specific steps that you need to do to cause this to happen? Or does it just happen every time you lock the computer?

This only happened one time over the last couple days since installing the creators. No idea what caused it or why it happened.

I was able to reproduce this! If I do a fresh logout/login, and lock the workstation before DisplayFusion starts, the taskbars will show up over the lock screen. We've added this to our list to fix up :)

Thanks!

Hi was this fix ever implemented? I'm on 8.1.2 and checked for beta updates and didn't see any. Also still having the issue. Thanks.

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Cool, I'll check it out. Did you ever hear back from Microsoft on this? This doesn't seem like something you should even have to fix. Seems like a major security flaw in windows that this is in possible.

I agree! Unfortunately we never heard back, no. I submitted it via the Feedback Hub but I'm guessing that doesn't get very far :(

Is this still an issue? I have "Show notifications on the lock screen" disabled in settings, but notifications are still displaying on my lock screen. Currently running DisplayFusion Pro 9.6.1.

@Christopher: Which notifications are you seeing on the lock screen? When I disable that setting here, I'm not seeing any DisplayFusion tray notifications when locked.
