OK, so I've been using DF for some months. I really like it.

This whole time it's been with dual monitors. I've now moved to 3 displays, like this:

Center (laptop): Primary display Right: Secondary

With the 2 monitor display I always had the laptop set to Primary as it was at center with my secondary at right. But now, I have the laptop across the room to my left and I want to set the Center display to Primary and the laptop to secondary.

The problem is that as soon as I do that, I lose all DF right click functionality. No more task bar DF menu and no more Move Window to Next Monitor.

The real problem with losing those right clicks is I can't see everything on that laptop screen from across the room so using he mouse to move windows around is not going to work.

Conversely if I leave the laptop as primary, any new windows default to that screen first, which means I need to migrate them all to the Secondary (center display) everytime. It also means that my desktop icons and widgets default to the primary.

To complicate matters I plan to add a 3rd monitor to the right.

I hope this makes sense.

The DF specific taskbar options, and Functions (move to next monitor, etc) are only available on the taskbars on the non-primary monitor, as we can't add them to the native Windows taskbar. However, you can move the Windows taskbar to the non-primary monitor, so that DF will put a taskbar on the primary monitor instead if you prefer. Here's how to do that:
  • Right-click the native Windows taskbar, make sure that "Lock the taskbar" is disabled
  • Left-click and drag on an empty space on the Windows taskbar and drag it to the bottom of the other monitor
  • After doing that, the DF taskbar should show up on the monitor that previously had the Windows taskbar

Another thing that might help you is the "Move All Windows to Current Monitor" and "Move Window to Next Monitor" Functions. You can assign key combinations to them on the Settings > Functions tab. The "Move All Windows to Current Monitor" Function will move all open windows to the monitor that the mouse cursor is currently on.

Hope that helps!

That helped a bit.

My big problem now is with programs that are not monitor aware. For instance, I use Endicia Dazzle (postage software). It will run in my preferred display just fine, but when I go to actually print postage it brings up a secondary window that will not stay monitor aware. This means every time I print postage (which is dozens of times per day) I need to either grab that window and drag it over ot my Primary (which is far away making it nearly impossible to grab) or use the Move Window to Next Monitor shortcut. That works but it's obviously an extra step that makes it all that more tedious.

Is there a solution for this?

There are a couple of solutions that should work for that scenario:
  • Enable the "Move child windows to the same monitor as the parent window" option on the Settings > Window Management tab
  • Create a Window Location rule to move all windows to the current monitor (see attached for example)
• Attachment: Window Location - All Windows to Current Monitor.jpg [125,588 bytes]
