Can we get an option or separate version that is portable? So we can customize where the program is installed and updates will be installed there as well as options being stored in a configuration file instead of the registry.

Thanks!

It's not something that we're planning at the moment, because DisplayFusion needs to be installed to the Program Files directory in order for all features to work. The installer installs a Windows service for some features, and DisplayFusion also needs to auto-elevate, which only works if it's installed in Program Files because that's a "trusted" location in Windows.

We do have an open feature request for a portable version, so if it's something we do end up implementing, we'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks!

Any news about making the app portable?
I will change job soon and at the new working place I will not be allowed to install any software locally anymore.
The missing option will make the program useless at work.

You can Export and import settings which is better than portable IMO

You can still download the ZIP version instead of the installer and just extract it to a folder you have access to and run it from there. Just note that some of the features won't work correctly if it can't run elevated.

Thanks!

Hello Keith, could you tell exactly which features are not working correctly?
I cannot use the installer at work but I definitly need DisplayFusion to run. So far with older version 9.3 I don't see much trouble using ZIP version. Is there a difference on this point if I switch to 9.5?

You should be ok to update to 9.5. Things that don't work:

  • Windows Lock Screen changing
  • Desktop context menu for DisplayFusion
  • Functions/TitleBar Buttons on elevated windows

Other than that, most features should work :)

Hope that helps!
